Random unasked for observation: I’ve left the door open for quite a few authors lately to revise and resubmit. Honestly a lot of close-but-not-there-yet submissions. I always read hoping it’ll be great—maybe a push will help one of these books make that leap. #pubtip #amagenting

I’ve loved this book since the first time I read it. Now you can take a peek at what snagged me from the first page. #pubtip

You heard it here first, folks! Connor prefers your pen names unmasked in your query. Do other agents feel this way? twitter.com/dreamoforgonon…Same. Simple fact: the more your agent knows, the better they can manage your career and represent your true wishes. #querytip

I am much more comfortable now offering notes like “this whole chapter lacks zazz” and “make more good!!!”. Also telling people that if they’re saying “just tell me what to do!” about a book concept, maybe it’s not the right book for them or the right time to be writing books. In #pubtip sum: my ideal relationship is with an author comfortable with the equality of the power dynamic and unthreatened by ambiguity. Now to go embroider that on a throw pillow

#QueryTip! Don’t query until you get feedback on your pitch from someone who is unfamiliar with your manuscript. They will be able to point out holes that are invisible to you/someone who has read the MS already. #Triadatip

Last night, I read ~10 queries in a row with prologues, none of which needed a prologue. Not saying that prologues NEVER work, but if you have one in your MS, really look at the purpose it serves. A short thread:

Of course, you've got to have the perception and emotional intelligence (or narcissism! That works sometimes too!) to understand how to create thunderclaps for other people. But that's different than trying to give people "what they want" based on what they're guessing they want.TL DR: "electability" is BS and this is also a #pubtip

I’ve been thinking a lot about how and when I read submissions. Especially since having kids and being generally useless after they go to bed. Mostly I think I want to dispel the myth of a single-sitting-speed-read being the only sign of a win. #amagenting #pubtip

YA slush pile fact: if the book doesn’t have dead parents, it has a dead sibling, and the MC most likely feels responsible for that sibling’s untimely demise. #querytip #amagenting
