That’s not the case here. I don’t have the luxury of reading these projects & sitting on them while I decide if I’m in love or “in like.” To be real, I won’t have time to read 5 projects & get my client work done in such a short time frame. 4/6 #amagenting #pubtip #amquerying

While that’s exciting, because I have 5 gems in my pile, it’s also frustrating. Even if I love them, I can’t offer on all 5 at once. Normally, if there weren’t offers, I would have the time to space out my offers (assuming I love them). 3/6 #amagenting #pubtip #amquerying

In the publishing industry, you hear a lot about how “timing is everything.” Here’s an example of how timing could affect whether or not you get an offer of rep from an agent. 1/6 #amagenting #pubtip #amquerying

There’s something special about October 10, 2018. I’m not sure what it is, but I know there has to be something. Over the past week & a half, FIVE authors have told me they’ve received offers of representation and need an answer by October 10. 2/6 #amagenting #pubtip #amquerying

Things not to do to an agent:
-ignore guidelines
-mail something to their home office address using their personal rather than business name (how was this even located? very concerned now)

-insult the agent in the query letter with a line you would CLEARLY not include in a note to a male agent
-send something that's already been published (self-published is already published) #pubtip

A lot of first chapters begin with an explanation of how the character got to where they are. (Even if it's not in a "freeze frame!" obvious kind of way.) Cut the boring stuff. Let them be in the moment and the reader will catch up. #querytip

Read up on who you are submitting to. If agented, read up on who your agent is submitting you to. Know whether a publisher is right for you BEFORE sending them material. #querytip
