Q10: Rhyming Picture Books are a hard sell and so I am incredibly picky. Pass. #tenqueries

Natascha Morris @SoCalledYALife · 6 Apr 2018

Q8: This one doesn't have the atmosphere I am looking for. I know that is a weird reason to pass but form my #MSWL I am allowed to be picky. :) #tenqueries

Natascha Morris @SoCalledYALife · 6 Apr 2018

Q6: This could be interesting, but I don't think I am the right agent for this project. YA Fantasy pass #tenqueries

Natascha Morris @SoCalledYALife · 6 Apr 2018

Q5: Don't like the writing. Pass on YA Fantasy #tenqueries

Natascha Morris @SoCalledYALife · 6 Apr 2018

Q4: Eh. Not feeling this and I am being picky on fantasy so this will be a pass. #tenqueries

Natascha Morris @SoCalledYALife · 6 Apr 2018

Q3: Writing is not where I need it to be. YA Fantasy Pass. #tenqueries

Natascha Morris @SoCalledYALife · 6 Apr 2018

Q2: I am tired of seeing the trope "human thinks they are normal but turns out there are not and then they team up with others like them". It has a problematic starting point and until I see something fresh about this, it's a pass #tenqueries

Natascha Morris @SoCalledYALife · 6 Apr 2018

Q1: Interesting premise, and the mechanical writing is solid. But the author doesn't allow the character to react to the actions of the plot. YA Fantasy Pass #tenqueries

Natascha Morris @SoCalledYALife · 20 Jan 2018

Q10: YA Fantasy. Not convinced vampires are ready for a comeback yet. And the writing didn't have that fantasy feeling that I need in my fantasies. Pass. #tenqueries

Natascha Morris @SoCalledYALife · 20 Jan 2018

Q9: YA Fantasy. The query looked intriguing and like it might address a #MSWL list of mine, but then the writing falls into the dreaded telling and therefor glosses over the character development. Sad. Pass. #tenqueries

Natascha Morris @SoCalledYALife · 20 Jan 2018

Q7: YA Fantasy. Writing is good, but I don't see a market for this story. I'm going to pass, but ask if they have other manuscripts ready to query. #tenqueries

Natascha Morris @SoCalledYALife · 20 Jan 2018

Q5: YA Historical. A referral and the title alone made me pause. Started reading and I am just not feeling the story the way I had hoped to. Pass. #tenqueries

Natascha Morris @SoCalledYALife · 20 Jan 2018

Q3: YA Fantasy. The query was good, but the writing is actually not as strong. The word choices are weird. Read on a but further and I think the novel starts in the wrong spot. Since it wasn't the strongest sample, I am going to pass. #tenqueries

Natascha Morris @SoCalledYALife · 20 Jan 2018

Q2: YA Fantasy. The prologue is what made me originally pause on this but after looking again, I think this might be better geared towards adults. Pass. #tenqueries

Natascha Morris @SoCalledYALife · 20 Jan 2018

Q1: YA Fantasy. Much better than the last ms I saw from this author. Writing is good, but still needs to improve to give more heft to the characters. A pass for now. #tenqueries

Natascha Morris @SoCalledYALife · 20 Jan 2018

Q10: YA Historical which should be fantasy. Writing isn't quite on the sweet spot for me and query didn't compel me. Pass. #tenqueries

Natascha Morris @SoCalledYALife · 20 Jan 2018

Q9: PB. Same problem as before. The writing is not write for a picture book. Too descriptive. Pass. #tenqueries

Query tip: PBs should leave room for the illustrator. Don't describe the scene, the illustrator will do that.

Natascha Morris @SoCalledYALife · 20 Jan 2018

Q7: CB. Query looks shady and so I am going to say no. #tenqueries

Natascha Morris @SoCalledYALife · 20 Jan 2018

Q6: Adult book that tried to sneak in as a MG. Immediate Pass. No reading. Even the comp is an adult book. Pass. #tenqueries

Natascha Morris @SoCalledYALife · 20 Jan 2018

Q5: Verse Novel. I am picky about these so a pass has more to do with me than with the author or the story. I want a Margarita Engle writing style but for YA and MG. Pass on this one. #tenqueries
