@BookEndsJessica @Wannabe_Holly The book is complete. Do I write an outline for each chapter or a synopsis? I explain boring, complicated Occult teachings in layman's terms so that teenagers and complete novices can understand. To reduce this further is like making a synopsis of the bible. Help? #askagentA practical nonfiction proposal is different then narrative nonfiction or fiction. Info can be found on our website. #askagent #querytip

@BookEndsJessica Hi Jessica, in a query letter what is the biggest mistake you see authors make? #askagentThe biggest mistake authors make in queries is not writing a strong blurb or pitch. The second biggest mistake is not writing a full query letter, but just tossing a two-line blurb our way. #querytip #askagent

@BookEndsJessica What's the most important thing you look for in a query letter? #askagentSometimes when reading queries the only thing I read is the blurb. That's the most important piece. #querytip #askagent

@BookEndsJessica I have a question: How does this work for those writers who "fly into the mist", according to JoBev? They may have a snippet of an idea but no detailed outline. That's not their process. It might not, but as the story takes shape you could write the query. Or, if you need to wait until the book is finished to write the query then seriously consider the query as part of the revision process instead of the final step. #querytip

A strong book, with a strong hook (or saleable element), will often write itself with lots of revisions and tweaking. #querytipWriting a query for a book that still needs to be shaped and thought through will feel (and be) nearly impossible. #querytip

Writing the query, trying to concisely tell about the book you are writing, helps you see if you actually have a book worth writing. #querytip #amwritingIf you are struggling to make the query sound exciting, or hone in on the key points, maybe you need to rethink the book rather than just the query. #querytip

Just passed on a query because the blurb revealed a major plot hole. #threadIt's why I often recommend authors write the query even before writing the book #querytip

Before querying everything should be complete & ready to send--the manuscript & the synopsis. Make sure your entire package is in top form before your first pitch. #querytip

Even in submissions through Query Manager I expect your query to be a full letter. I've had a rash of nothing but 3-4 sentence blurbs. All got rejected. #querytip

When evaluating submissions it's a big red flag if you have acknowledgments, dedication & a copyright from 2 years ago. #querytip

Authors: When submitting your manuscript (or sample chapters) there is no need to include acknowledgements or dedication. #querytip
