A story that has no narrative keeps the reader from experiencing the story directly as we can never get close enough to the character. Similarly, a story that has almost no dialogue will cut the reader off from everything that occurs outside of the mind of the character. #subtips

Happy Friday! I'm listening to some Nina Simone and feelin' good so, I figured why not do some #subtips re: dialogue, narrative, and how each of these function in influencing a reader's experience? #querytip #writetip #amwriting

Dialogue depicts how one character connects to another character. We all have different ways we communicate depending on who we're with, what environment we're in, as well as how we *emotionally* respond to these things. #subtips

A few things I love seeing in a query:

1. Brevity
2. Twitter or IG handle
3. A hook that makes me swat whoever is sitting beside me (usually my husband) and say, “Listen to this!!!!!!!”
4. Info about you! Especially fun stuff that gives me a sense for your personality

I'm getting a LOT of queries with super low word counts for their category/genre. When you're editing make sure to keep this in mind! Not sure? A great resource is litrejections.com/word-count/ #querytip #subtip

That’s so funny, because I’m getting all the queries with super high word counts. 😂🤷🏼‍♀️ Guys, even in adult high fantasies, I really don’t want to be reading a book longer than 130k words. I just don’t have that kind of time and I bet you can probably tighten it. #querytip
