I don't like to tweet negatively about individual queries, but I will say that too many* of them inadvertently reveal that the sender has spent too much time** considering me as A Woman.*in this case "any number > 1" = "too many"
**in this case "any time" = "too much time" twitter.com/rachsyme/statu…
To be clear, it's a vanishingly small minority of queries. It just always strikes me as super weird when it happens, because it's weird to have someone make a Thing of your gender in a BUSINESS EMAIL. #querytip

Here's a thing, friends. I have sold books in the last year (more than I was expecting in my first year selling books! It's been nice!). But none of those books are coming out until 2020. When you write you admire my work & success, it tells me you haven't done your research.

What can slow the pace of a book?*Long conversations
*Lack of action
*Too much time spent in characters' heads
*Too much explanation/back story
*Filler scenes that don't advance plot
So if an editor/agent/critique says pace of your book is too slow, look for these things.

It feels like a brag when people ask me how I found my agent (@abuckslater) and I say he found me. But it’s true he did. And it’s also true that I didn’t have to query him so like I can’t give you advice on how to query an agent because I don’t know how lmao. Sorry!Agents find clients all kinds of ways! If you're a journalist like Keah, make sure your contact info is easy to find within your online presence...you never know if an agent is reading your material and thinking: there's a book here. #pubtip

An author asked me if there were any mistakes in a query that were unforgivable? My response: #querytip marycmoore.com/index.php/2019…

It takes striking the right balance between dialogue and narrative in order to create a fully integrated experience in which a reader can immerse themselves.
That's all I've got for this thread....for now. 🙃 I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

The same is true for your character. By showing how they respond and interact with each other, the reader should pick up on what their relationship looks like and means. Friend? Lover? Sworn enemy? Awkward acquaintance? Each relationship has its own unique language and

Happy Friday! I'm listening to some Nina Simone and feelin' good so, I figured why not do some #subtips re: dialogue, narrative, and how each of these function in influencing a reader's experience? #querytip #writetip #amwritingDialogue depicts how one character connects to another character. We all have different ways we communicate depending on who we're with, what environment we're in, as well as how we *emotionally* respond to these things. #subtips
