Honestly, the number of submissions ELM gets saying they are exclusive, just to our submissions - we are CONSISTENTLY backlogged, & I mostly work from oldest to newest. Other agencies get behind too! It could be MONTHS wherein no eyes are on your ms & then they pass. #querytipVery seriously. #querytip
tldr: don't be exclusive with an agent unless they ask you to, it doesn't serve you or your work.

ACTUAL thing, hill I will die on, creators #querytip #subtip - do NOT be exclusive with you unless an agent ASKS you to be. And even then, maybe only be exclusive with them if they're actively giving you a lot of notes, and then as a gesture of good faith - you both are giving--each other a fair chance. But otherwise? SERVE YOUR WORK. Get it in front of as many people as possible! If no one sees your work? No one will represent your work! Or buy your work! #querytip

#pubtip To create realistic and compelling characters for your novels, look around you. Let the "real" people around you be your models. You don't have to reinvent the wheel.

#QueryTip The querying process can be frustrating. Don't give up. Keep writing. Work on other projects. Celebrate victories, large and small. If you write a great scene, celebrate. If you get good feedback, celebrate. Then when you get an agent, celebrate! #amquerying #amwriting

#QueryTip If I request a revise and resubmit, and in the meantime, you receive an offer of representation, please let me know right away, even if it hasn't been six months. An R&R from me means I really like the project + hope for another chance with you. #amquerying #amrevising

#pubtip for the AM... Agents and editors have SPECIFIC submission guidelines. Follow those. Do not try to find short cuts. Do not try do something different. This does not show your eagerness, but your lack of an ability to follow directions (or maybe read).

A note about queries:I am NOT picky about word count.
Write what the story needs. As long as you're not over 200,000 or unusually short for your genre, I'm not going to reject a perfectly good book for something like word count being outside my expectations. #querytip #askagent
