@BookEndsJessica I have a novel that is hard to categorize in any genre, and I'm finding it hard to pitch to the agents. It is part spy thriller, part historical fiction, and I wrote it in a news writing style purposely as the main character is a journalist. When trying to figure out genre, what we are looking at is who is the audience for your book and where on the shelf will they look for your book. #askagent

@NaomisLitPix @bookendslit Situation: I've done my query research and there are 2 agents I like, but they're from the same agency. Do I query them both separately or just 1 of them? I've heard that if you query 1 agent at an agency then you're querying them all. T or F? How would I handle this? #askagentEach agency has it's own policy. At Bookends, we ask you to query one agent at a time but if that agent passes you may query others. Check with each specific agency's website for their query policy! #askagent

@kfairwrites Oh yes absolutely. I also *think* @BookEndsJessica has spoken about what to include in a proposal on our blog. Good luck!Agents will almost always work with you to hone, perfect and polish, but it’s best if you assume this is it & make it the best you can. #AskAgent

@JillEWarner I’m not the only one—@RachMBrooks, @BookEndsKim and @wensday95 also rep them, though they can all tell you how actively they’re looking. I tend to prefer Regencies and Victorians, but I’m open to other time periods. #AskAgent 1/2I'd love to see more historical romance in my queries! I do love the Regency and Victorian periods, but I'd also love to see some time periods / places we don't see as often. #askagent

@NaomisLitPix @bookendslit How serious do you like to see queries written? Do you prefer a professional tone? Or could a light hearted/joking tone be okay?My day job is pretty serious/professionally toned, so I never know if that carries over everywhere or if I can leave it at the door. ❤

@NaomisLitPix @bookendslit So, #askagent, how often do agents go through queries on cell phones? Just realized that some formatting on my ms pages shows up really screwy on cell phones! Yikes!I read a bunch of queries on my phone last night lol. Querymanager eliminates many of these issues for me. #askagent

@bookendslit @AuthorMeganVD Hmm. I think both paranormal and fantasy romance are tough right now, though I’m not looking for either subgenre. Maybe @NaomisLitPix or @wensday95 has more to add?Epic fantasy with romance is viable for me but I'm really not on the lookout for PNR or UF. #askagent

@ShiraZwiren Start looking for internships and make sure you’re very well reads in the current marketplace #AskAgentAlso consider how your job experience is an asset. Work at Bank? Customer service experience! Teacher? Project management experience! You still need to learn the ins here on the ground, but those skills can transfer and be helpful. #askagent

@Nicky_Adams_Pen @bookendslit @NaomisLitPix Unfortunately, I think historical in general is a little tough for YA. You never know, though, when a trend will change...I agree, historical is really tough in YA. That being said, if you can bring something FRESH then I am open to seeing it. WWII might be a bit tired if you are going the usual story routes, and personally, it needs to be extremely researched. But I'm game. #askagent

@NaomisLitPix @bookendslit It’s also plot A romance. So not paranormal? Do I query with YA fantasy/romance alone?Query it as (YA if it is) fantasy and let your query show the romance!

@bookendslit #AskAgent When my second manuscript is ready, would an agent be more inclined to represent me if I’d gone through the process of having it reviewed by Kirkus before querying? (Assuming the review was good, of course.)That’s not necessary. Those can come when a pub is attached #AskAgent

@bookendslit #AskAgent When my second manuscript is ready, would an agent be more inclined to represent me if I’d gone through the process of having it reviewed by Kirkus before querying? (Assuming the review was good, of course.)I care about the book itself, not what someone else thought of it! I'd rather see you stand on your own merits. :^) #AskAgent

@bookendslit @NaomisLitPix #AskAgent is there still a market for WWII ? Either in YA or NA?It is not something I am terribly interested in so I think another agent may have better advice. #askagent
