so to jump off of this tweet, here's a thread of a few things I love seeing in YA romance~! #MSWL

mysteries! i love stuff in the vein of castle and lucifer, or even more historical mystery adventures like in miss fisher's murder mysteries

low stakes teen romance. give me contemporary life problems and teen drama tinted by culture and mental health issues, like in the netflix series never have i ever.

stories that feature environmentalism in some way, whether they hearken back to the solarpunk vibes of perfect dark or the extreme measures in final fantasy vii to save the planet

any narrative that involves video games. i grew up on books and games, from the t*witches series to the legend of zelda, and i'd love to see more books that feature video games as an important part of the protagonists lives

ragtag team-ups and heists! some of my favourite brooklyn nine-nine episodes are the halloween heist episodes, and while the heist in six of crows was the least memorable part of that book, it was still there amongst all the character-building and relationships

steampunk stories about sky pirates or mecha. i'd love to see something in the vein of final fantasy xii's worldbuilding and characters.
