Here's a really kinda technical #querytip: For your synopsis, the first time you mention a character, you should ALL CAPS their name. No need to do this in the query, though. #writingcommunity

#querytip for #pitchwriting Read your pitch to a friend Ask them to describe the story. If they can, you're gold. If not, rewrite, and check it again until they can. #amquerying

P.S. Ask what's not necessary in the pitch, then cut it. They can read the book for the details!

#QueryTip

Don't send out queries until you feel confident about your manuscript. You'll probably only get one shot with each agent. Make that shot count.

Just a quick #QueryTip: Make sure to personalize your pitch to each agent/editor/publisher you're querying. Research who they are, what they currently have in their catalog, and what they're looking for. A little extra effort can go a long way in standing out from the crowd! ❤️

#QueryTip - there seems to be some confusion—when you mark your query “CNR” on query tracker that doesn’t close your query on the agent’s side. We don’t see that note. The only way to tell us “don’t consider this anymore” is to withdraw it.

#QueryTip: I heard a rumor that there's some advice floating around to close out a query as no response after 2-4 weeks & well... You should NOT. Unless the agent specifically says, they likely haven't seen your query yet or are still considering it. (Quick 🧵)

Don't take rejections personally. It's part of the process, and every writer faces it at some point. You’re being redirected to someone who will actually care about you, your story, and your writing career. Patience is key to find the right publisher for your book! #querytip

What is an inciting incident?
It’s the moment your MC can no longer have their “normal.” It’s the thing that forces them to make a decision (whether that is action or in action). It’s the driving force of the story and should happen toward the beginning of the book #QueryTip

#QueryTip for #AmQuerying authors
Your query letter should have
Who is the MC?
What do they want? Goals
What stands in their way? Obstacles
What happens if they fail? Stakes
Also meta data- WC, genre, age group (if nec), comp titles, author bio
You got this! ❤️

Editing your book before querying not only increases your chances of getting picked, but also speeds up the publishing process, since the in-house editor and author won’t have as much to revise compared to an unpolished manuscript. #querytip #writingadvice

Hello #amquerying writers! I have a couple basic tips for you to keep in mind with your query letters. #querytip

1. I am once again begging you to sign your name! I don't know who you are, but I'd like to address you by name when I respond.
