I'm elbow-deep in our slush pile today, so expect some #QueryTips over the next little while. The first may seem intuitive to some of you, but if your book is previously published (even for free), it often isn't eligible for agent representation! #WritingCommunityI've received three queries so far today that are for books that are already published, so, #QueryTip:

#querytip a query ≠ a book review! saying something like “written in an entertaining style, this is an engaging book with relatable characters” actually tells me nothing—it’s very subjective, and loads of books could be described this way! 🧵It basically comes down to “show don’t tell” which is even more crucial in queries. If I get 100 queries this week saying “an engaging book with relatable characters” how will I pick which one to read? I can’t read 100 MS a week, so make your query distinct! #querytip

I'm not sure what's going on but out of the 10 queries I just looked at 4 started with the character waking up and 5 didn't have a query letter just sample pages.

Hey, all! I am closing my inbox to queries aside from those I request (conferences, contests, referrals, etc.) so I can catch up on submissions.
If I requested from you for a recent contest, the links to submit are in my feed!

#QueryTip If an agent requests your work during a pitch fest, but you see opportunities to revise before submitting. Don't feel pressured to send right away. Take your time to polish. I promise, we'll wait.
Best of luck, #amquerying!

The latest podcast episode is up! In today's Books with Hooks segment, Carly and CeCe fall in love with another submission, and I chat with guest, Kirstin Beck, author of COURAGE, MY LOVE, about writing starter novels and establishing a research process. pic.twitter.com/Wdi3dRyzWBHere's a question / #querytip inspired by this week's episode of #BooksWithHooks:
Do you include your social media links when querying? This isn't mandatory at all ofc (follow your own comfort level!) but we so appreciate it when you do! #WritingCommunity

Back on here to say I'm temporarily closing to queries. I had a number of family emergencies that took up most of my April, and I'm very behind on submissions, queries, and client manuscripts. I'll reopen...soon. #querytip #amagenting

Reminder to querying writers: If your book is for sale on Amazon it is published.
