Read up on who you are submitting to. If agented, read up on who your agent is submitting you to. Know whether a publisher is right for you BEFORE sending them material. #querytip

#querytip reminder: PLEASE update agents w/ your materials when you get an offer of rep. It’s so discouraging when you get excited about a project then learn the author accepted an offer without updating. Especially since we’re often using nights/wknd time to keep up w/ queries

I’ve seen several queries in my box this morning for books that are previously published—PLEASE don’t send these to me!

The majority of an agent’s work is already done if a book is already published, and you’d need STELLAR sales for a big house to pick it up.

#WriteTip #QueryTip Be sure to balance your dialog with sufficient narration & action beats. Dialog & action beats without narration is like someone serving me dry toast without butter. Narration brings forward the internal part of the story, the part most of us gravitate toward.
