#pubtip Take the weekend. Relax and just think about your next book, the synopsis you are writing or the query you are drafting. Is this really the best? Does this say what you want it to say? Would you buy this book or sign you as a client?

Here's a shocker... If you submit something to me other than romance or women's fiction, you will be rejected. #pubtip read the guidelines...

Suzanne Collins published 5 MG novels before The Hunger Games (her wildly successful trilogy) hit shelves.Just because a debut doesn't:
▪️hit the NYT list
▪️make millions
▪️become a franchise
...doesn't mean a career is doomed. A debut 👏 doesn't 👏 define 👏 a career.

recently i’ve been thinking a lot about how to advise people who’ve approached me about whether or not they should pursue a career as a professional creative. An excellent thread by @agentsaba. Thank you for taking the time to put this together! #pubtip #WritingLife

#pubtip To create realistic and compelling characters for your novels, look around you. Let the "real" people around you be your models. You don't have to reinvent the wheel.

#pubtip for the AM... Agents and editors have SPECIFIC submission guidelines. Follow those. Do not try to find short cuts. Do not try do something different. This does not show your eagerness, but your lack of an ability to follow directions (or maybe read).

#pubtip If you are unclear about whether a premise works, you can always ask. Don't pitch but ask..."I have written a novel I think is Women's Fiction because the women in my house love it. Is this truly WF?"
Literary Agency
#pubtip I am going to say this again. Do your research. I spent the weekend rejecting people who submitted projects to me that I do not represent. One submitted directly from my website where the guidelines are clear.

I realized that the craft book I was working on was missing an entire section that I always proclaim as being an important part of the writing process. #pubtip Had to remember reviewing your writing from a distance is a MUST!
