#pubtip Take the weekend. Relax and just think about your next book, the synopsis you are writing or the query you are drafting. Is this really the best? Does this say what you want it to say? Would you buy this book or sign you as a client?

#PubTip = I've heard this mantra about publicity for years and just wanted to share:

- What works (in publicity) every time? Word of Mouth
- How do we control Word of Mouth? We can't, alas

So we put together a publicity campaign to elevate visibility and...hope.

Responding to a nice personalized rejection on a query with arrogance and borderline threat is not the way to make someone reconsider. It is, however, a good way to get blocked. #pubtip

When you write a synopsis for an editor or agent, spoil every single twist and turn. Don't tease.

When you write a review, mention the good and bad without spoiling.

When you write promotional material, book blurbs or back cover copy, tease like crazy but don't spoil.

#pubtip for the AM... Agents and editors have SPECIFIC submission guidelines. Follow those. Do not try to find short cuts. Do not try do something different. This does not show your eagerness, but your lack of an ability to follow directions (or maybe read).

I can't believe I have to say this. Querying an agent and then harassing them through FB messages and Twitter DMs, especially after they've passed on your MS, is totally unprofessional and not the way to get an agent's attention. #pubtip
