@NaomisLitPix Omg. That’s like rejecting Chris Hemsworth for a first date... 🤪An author needs to feel like *I* am the right match for them as much as I do. When I lose one, it does hurt (VERY much so!), but I'm glad they are confident in the direction they've chosen. I want the best for them+book, even if that best is not me. #askagent #querystats

Rest assured I answer EVERY query in my querymanager.

I'm in the beginning stage, but I wish I'd known getting the deal doesn't speed anything up. "Patience is a virtue" must have been coined from the publishing industry! But community is everything. Hold onto it. Appreciate it. It takes you through the darker days. @Debut19Chat twitter.com/DebutAuthors19…Literary Agent

Business stuff from Twitter and interviews-- especially #MSWL-- should of course be included. But a reference to an outfit we posted about? Or a cake we baked? It doesn't improve your query. And that's the ultimate goal, right? To make the best possible and most gripping query.I would never pass on a query because it included a reference to something I said, but that's a moment that could be about your book or about your comps or experience. It's a moment that can be about you-- not me! Because I want to hear about your work. #querytip

I have another #querytip that's a bit of an odd one. I know there's a lot about agents online. We willingly give you so much about our personal lives on this very site! (I know I talk about my eating habits and neighborhood and family, etc.)That said, most of the time, this information doesn't need to (and arguably shouldn't be) referenced in a query. Especially when it's a bit of a deep dive. I appreciate that you want to connect in a personal way and we're giving you the ammunition to do so. #querytip

Been thinking more about takeaways from last weekend's #CHESAWW writers conferenceThis pic is from Saturday afternoon, the "First Pages Panel", where first pages of unpublished works were read aloud anonymously to a panel of literary agents.
(NB: all works were fiction.) 1/x twitter.com/M_L_Webber/sta…
While we're at it, here's a thread on writing opening scenes in fiction, inspired by an agent panel I spoke on earlier this year.
Guess this is a #pubtip #metathread now!

I have responded to all #query emails received through right this very second! Requests made! Excitement high! Thanks all.The query inbox will be staying open over the upcoming holidays but I won't be checking it very frequently. So if you query me now, look for a response in January! (As always, I respond to every query I receive - no response means I haven't seen it yet!) #querytip
