@UweStenderPhD When you take a client on submission what is your process? #askagentAfter I make sure the manuscript is as perfect as it can be, I query the editors whom I believe will love the project.

@UweStenderPhD When reading Publisher's Weekly, many of the supernatural thriller titles seem more like horror and vice-versa, but they are marketed distinctly. What elements are unique to each, so that we don't pitch the wrong genre to agents? Thx!I don't know. Since it mixes genres "supernatural" and "thriller", it is a mixed bag from the get go.

@AnneTibbets What do you think about requeries? If a manuscript has gone through major edits since the first query, would you consider the revised project?I have the policy that unless I invite you to requery, don't.

Mike Demilio @mikedemilio
@AnneTibbets I wrote my first book 13 yrs ago, self-pubbed and did little marketing, so sales were modest. Would mentioning this be a liability or a plus when querying my new MS?I'm always one for full disclosure.
I've self pubbed books which flopped.
I'm not going to hold it against you unless you pitch me that same book from 13 yrs ago. :)

@AnneTibbets Is it ok for a comp to be something like [classic author/novel] x [my twist]?Yes, as long as you also have a recent one in there too. ala: [classic author/novel] x [my manuscript] + [setting/plot device/atmosphere/voice of recent release]

@AnneTibbets Do you require/expect something big to occur in the first couple of pages or is it okay to gradually tell the story?Depends on the type of manuscript. A slow plot build works if the voice is compelling.

@Heather_Glomb @AnneTibbets Yes, good question. Would an agent like to know how the author plans to market their novel? Not during the querying process. We can go over that after I sign and sell it.

@42amer @JenSneedWrites @litbeing I can understand it must take a lot of time to do the polishing that a writer should do. #okscbwichat#okscbwichat I can't tell them how to write, just to explain to them that this is what sell and this is what doesn't. That is the difficult part, 99% of any rejection in this industry isn't personal and has nothing to do with the writer's skills or abilities.

@42amer @JenSneedWrites @litbeing I can understand it must take a lot of time to do the polishing that a writer should do. #okscbwichat#okscbwichat Sorry, I didn't get to this during the chat. I think it boils down to a misunderstanding of what an agent does. I'm here to sell writers' work and intempret the fluctuation and chaos in the publishing market.

@UweStenderPhD I understand as a mechanism for promotion it could be useful.I'm referring more to having a website just for the sake of having a website.
I don't know. Your call. I would have one if I were a writer. But again, your call.

@UweStenderPhD @CorkumLauri What does one put on a website if you have no credits??Your hobbies, your interests. Just look at websites of other yet unpublished authors. There are many.
