If an author has multiple completed manuscripts ready to query, would you recommend they send them to one agent, one at a time, or is there a different process that author should follow such as simply indicating in their query letter they have other projects? #askagentCast a wide net. Query a handful of agents at once with your manuscript. You want to have your pick of multiple offering agents, if possible! You can query more than one project, too, and if you get an offer, let the other agents know you have an offer on a diff proj. #askagent

@NaomisLitPix #askagent is #dvpit a thing for you that you think is a good idea for authors??I think all pitching contests are great. I don't always participate in every single one, because there are a lot! I do participate in #dvpit when I can! That said, I get way more clients from queries than pitch contests. #askagent

I *think* I have a basic understanding of it as a writer—but I’d love additional input. “Voice” has been so huge in everything I read re:pub. What is your best answer to what exactly is “voice?” #AskAgentVoice is so nebulous, especially in terms of what we all react to and are looking for. For me, it's how you craft your manuscript—the dialogue, the description, etc. The tone and the sorts of emotion you can evoke in me. #AskAgent

What is your best answer to what exactly is “voice?” #AskAgentVoice is so important and so hard to explain, but what is it about your writing, the way you tell a story, that is unique to you. Lots of authors write horror, but who has a voice like Stephen King? Who else writes dialogue like Elmore Leonard? #askagent

What is your best answer to what exactly is “voice?” #AskAgentIt's your writing style. It can vary from genre to genre or character from character, but there will always be little quirks to your writing that readers fall in love with. Kind of like how no one has your handwriting but you. #askagent

#AskAgent Does BookEnds plan on offering internships in the near future? And are you open to career-changers (meaning NOT fresh out of school as your web site lists)? We have no plan as of right now to open, but I've often said the best people come when I wasn't looking. And I'm open to interns/workers of any agent. #askagent

@bookendslit If an author isA. Slower to write (a book takes about a year)
And
B. Only has manuscripts in a tough-to-sell market (ya fantasy)
Is it worth using the next year to jump into a new genre or age group? Or will the market change? #askagent
I think you risk trying to jump on a "wave" too late. The market changes so much in a year. YA fantasy is hard, but then so is YA contemporary, both are crowded. Yet both still have new deals post in PM! #askagent

Last one from me... maybe. For graphic novels do you want a completed script along with rough art/finished art... or are you looking for more of a pitch package? @bookendslit #askagentIf you are previously published in comics, I'm more open to a pitch packet because I know you can finish a project. If you're a debut, I want to see a lot more of finished art/script. #AskAgent

The market is ever-changing so I wouldn't worry about that so much. Instead, I would focus on what you need to do for you and if that's taking a year to jump into something new go for it. #askagent

Happy quarantine #AskAgent I was wondering what the general consensus was for query letters...do you like it when we jump right in to the story and pitch and leave personalization for later in the query, or do you like us to lead with why we chose to sub to you?I think this is an unpopular opinion, but I don’t care why you’re querying me unless it’s a referral. I don’t need personalization. Just get to the pitch, please. #askagent

#askagent #pb manuscript done and actually illustrated as well...can I submit this to an agent? You absolutely can. It is not necessary, however, for an author to be an illustrator as well. You can be either an author OR an illustrator, OR an author/illustrator who does both. #askagent
