Would you say that you personally are very hands on or editorial with your clients? Thanks #askagentI am, yes! I think they would agree. #AskAgent

Is it alright to use own voices in my query if I have an anxiety ridden detective and I also suffer from anxiety? Or is that only for marginalized voices? #askagentWhy not say you, like your protagonist, suffer from anxiety? I'd keep the term own voices to marginalized voices. #askagent

Would you say that you personally are very hands on or editorial with your clients? Thanks #askagentI'm definitely editorial. I love getting my hands into a manuscript and completely make it shine. #AskAgent

@bookendslitMy comp title ideas are all from a different genre from my WIP. Would that put off an agent? #askagent
I guess I'd wonder why you consider them your comps! #AskAgent

#askagent Also, I've gotten mixed feedback on comps from other media, i.e. film/tv/graphic novels. Yes or no?If it works use it. Comps can be a bit personal. I, for example, am famously known at @bookendslit for my lack of tv/film knowledge. Others however would definitely connect to a comp. 2002 is too old IMHO #askagent

@WReader23 That's not necessary, I don't think #AskAgentHonestly, I don't care. Your work is going to stand for itself regardless if you are 16 or 60. #askagent

For relatively young authors (in their teens), would you want to see their age in their bio or does that create bias? #AskAgentThat's not necessary, I don't think #AskAgent

@rainforestgardn I'm certainly eager to find more neurodiverse authors and characters! With the success of The Kiss Quotient and others, publishers have definitely opened up to more representation of autistic individuals. I know it's especially a goal for @NaomisLitPix and me.Absolutely this. 100%. #askagent

#askagent How much of the story should be included in the query? The opening scene? All the way to the end? One plot point? Thank you:)You want the same as you would see on the back of a book. What would make you pick up a book and read it? Same holds for a query. You are selling your book to us, the same way a book sales itself to a read. @BookEndsJessica @bookendslit might have blog post about this. #askagent

An agent once emailed me apologizing for the delayed response to my partial, saying she had put my manuscript in her "Maybe" pile. I thought agents were always clear about a rejection or acceptance. #AskAgentSometimes they might be waiting on second reads, or on the fence because they love certain aspects about the book but not others, or think it needs work but are trying to figure out if they have the vision for how to fix it, etc. #askagent

A Writer Inside @awriterinside
#AskAgent is 60,000 words too short for a Women's Fiction piece? It’s on the short side, but not completely unfeasible. I never like to add words just for adding words, but if I were reviewing yours, I’d be making notes on whether there were elements that could be fleshed out. #AskAgent

Sometimes we'll sit on it for a bit and come back to it with fresh eyes, or get second reads, etc. #AskAgent

With the Self-Publishing Conference just around the corner, we're delighted to share some exclusive interviews with our brilliant speakers ahead of the event! Up first is @katenashagent sharing some insights into literary agents. pic.twitter.com/8E5PC2KUkBI was asked: "What advice have you for authors trying to get an agent?" I replied: "A lot of approaches to agents are 'copy and paste' so you will stand out if you take the time to tell the agent why they might be right for you." #amwriting #publishing #querytip #askagent

Have you had any great conference connection finds or are the vast majority of your acquisition successes from agent submissions? #okscbwichat @MekishaTelfer @litbeingI have something in my inbox that I have high hope for as we speak! But Yes, the majority of my acquisitions come from agent submissions #okscbwichat

@UweStenderPhD @MalloryCBrown How quickly into reading a sub, do you know if you’ll request a full? And what helps you make that decision? #askagentIf I find a query intriguing, I always request the full, it's just an email away after all.

@MekishaTelfer You mention an interest in graphic novels - having @01FirstSecond as a sister imprint must be so helpful when developing graphic novels. Tell us more about what kind your interest in this genre. #okscbwichatOhh, good question. I love a good coming-of-age story in a graphic novel. Being young is so much harder than it looks and any story that is sympathetic to that experience is one I’ll love.
But I also love monsters and witches and hijinks 😜 #okscbwichat

Not at all! One project I fell in love with immediately was LATE TO THE PARTY by @kellyquindlen 💖💖💖. The pitch her agent sent said it was a “read it in one sitting” kind of book and she was right! #okscbwichat
