AC Arthur @ACArthur

#askagent If you make an offer to represent an author for one genre and then the author writes a book in a genre that you don't rep, what would you advise author do with that story?
Replying to @ACArthur

That'd be a discussion with your agent about the genre change and what you'd like to do with your career long-term. It might mean two agents (e.g. one for adult, one for children's) or it might mean you're not a great fit if you want to switch entirely #askagent

@BookEndsJessica Sorry, should have said it's a writers' site for critique. I'm hoping you will settle a long-running debate! #askagent
Replying to @AnnaKaling

Ooooooh!!! That's totally different. A writers site for critique would certainly not be seen as having previously published the work. In fact I don't even see a need to tell an agent or editor. #askagent

Matthew Charlton @Teuvz

@BookEndsJessica @AnnaKaling What if the author held political or religious views that you didn't approve of ? Or if he was just very very political on social media, would it still not affect your decision ?
Replying to @Teuvz

someone who makes a habit of viciously attacking others or trolling others is not going to likely be someone whose career I want to manage #askagent primarily because it would feel like the author might be unmanageable

Anna Clarity Kaling @AnnaKaling

#askagent Do you look at an author's social media when considering offering rep? What would turn you off or make you more likely to offer rep?
Replying to @AnnaKaling

I usually do, but I don't know that a social media site has made a difference in my decision to offer. #askagent. I suppose if an author is really negative I might change my mind.

Aila Doyle @ailadoyle2

@BookEndsJessica Jessica: Is there an appropriate way to follow up with an agent if you haven’t heard anything? Or is it better to assume the answer is no? #askagent
Replying to @ailadoyle2

Know the timeline by which they say they respond, give it a week beyond the timeline & simply email (or in the case of @bookendslit reply through Query Manager) & ask for a status update. #askagent
