@kaitylynne13 I have a upper MG fantasy and was wondering how flexible word count is? Currently cutting down some scenes/words and anticipate mine will be ~70,000-75,000 once it's ready. I know that's the very high end for an unpublished author - is word count a significant factor? #askagentWord count is definitely significant. This still sounds a bit too high. I normally like my upper MG hovering around 50-55k, but I've seen around 60k still be interesting. 70-75, though, is not MG territory. #askagent

It doesn't hurt too much. Some agents put more value on comps, others don't. It's better to give none, though, than just plop two of the most popular current books into the query. #askagent

So many agents and publishers say they don't accept new work.I had to take a break to catch up on reading/editing client manuscripts and working through the mss. I'd already requested. Lastly, are writing styles/voices such as those found in the His Dark Materials series by Philip Pullman or The Chronicles of Narnia series by C.S. Can you see “dead” genres breaking out again? Such as YA paranormal or YA dystopia. #askTBATrends go in cycles. Never say never but I wouldn't want to predict a time when YA PNR or dystopian fiction is all the rage again. #askTBA
