@UweStenderPhD Do you have a collection of form rejection letters to choose from for the particular reason you say no to a project? If the query does not work for me, I reject it with the same wording. If I request the full and reject it, I will focus on the individual project. Thus, a form letter is not even a possibility.

@UweStenderPhD Do you find dual timeline narratives intriguing or over done.? If the former should it be mentioned in your query? #askagentIf the plot is intriguing and the book well written, I don't care how many timelines are there. Just do it well.

@UweStenderPhD Do you have an opinion on whether a writer should hire a developmental editor before securing an agent? If I were a writer, I would not hire someone to do what I am supposed to do myself. I would get critique partners and save my money to buy them dinner and myself a bottle of Bombay Sapphire.

@UweStenderPhD It is okay to send your manuscript to an associate agent? Are one's chances of getting published the same? #askagentSend to whomever you think is the best match for you.

@UweStenderPhD When querying a completed trilogy, is it better to query only the first MS and mention there are 2 more finished ones or query all three MSs at once and give the complete arc of the story?Query the first only, but you should mention it is part of a series.

@UweStenderPhD If you request a full from someone, would you want to know if other agents have asked for fulls or partials? Or does it only matter if you offer rep? Thank you!No, it does not matter to me. All I care about is the project, not if anyone else is considering it.

#askagent Any other recommendations on preferred formats? (This really helps BTW; thanks!) twitter.com/kaitylynne13/s…I always go with 450 words being the sweet spot.
The Hook: A one or two sentence condensation of the plot. Like a movie log line.
The Book: Two paragraphs summarizing the book.
The Cook: One paragraph about the author that includes professional info. #askagent

Tips for a West Coast student interested in working for the publishing industry? #AskAgentWest coast is SO hard. Find the publishers and agents near you and watch the boards for internships! For example @ChronicleBooks offers several internships each year. #askagent

How should a writer handle contradicting feedback from agents on rejections for fulls? #AskAgentAs subjective feedback. Try to dig deep and see if there's a common thread in the feedback but unless three people tell you the same thing just try to improve your manuscript with what feels right. #askagent

#askagent @NerdyPam for MG and YA, what would you say is too long? Would you look at 100,000+ words or instantly be turned off?For an MG completely turned off but I'm one agent. YA I still wouldn't like it but I might read it and find areas to cut. #askagent

@kaitylynne13 Hi Kaitlyn,How much does a brief self-publishing stint (to garner reviews) affect the chances of an MS? Can reviews be helpful in a query? #askagent
Many agents do not accept previously published works, even self-published, unless they sold extraordinarily well. Reviews don't often help when searching for an agent, but add in your bio if you've previously published other titles. #askagent

@kaitylynne13 Have you seen many fantasy ms that explore the origins of the 1st world war? The assassination, the spies, the secret deals-but w/magic?Hm, not sure about in Fantasy. Definitely in Urban Fantasy or Magical Realism, though. Assassins and spies have become very popular, even with the touch of magic. #askagent

@Cmiller61408 I love the stakes. WHY must these characters work together (or against one another) and WHAT happens if they succeed or fail? That catches me. Turn offs are usually when authors claim they are the next bestseller, or no book is like theirs, or saying genre usually fails #askagentI also dislike cliche, stereotyped characters. Unless there's a solid reasoning, or the character grows from that form of existence, it sometimes spawns an eye roll and a pass #askagent
