@UweStenderPhD I've heard conflicting advice on this from fellow writers, but from an agent perspective...When querying my debut under this pen name, is it helpful to mention that I've been published by a small press under another name, to demonstrate understanding/experience?
It does not matter.

@UweStenderPhD Thanks for doing this! Do authors have the option to review publishing contracts or does the agent have final say after it goes to submission? Also, do you have a preferred POV for thrillers?YOU are the agent's boss. NEVER forget that. YOU decide if you want to sign or not.
No, not really.

@UweStenderPhD Is there any story you feel is feel overdone? No, because if done well, it could work.

@UweStenderPhD At what point in a requested ms do you throw in the towel? And what makes you refer the writer to one of your colleagues at the agency, rather than just giving a final “no”?When you are out of all legitimate agents to query to.
If I think it is good, but may work better for them than me.

@UweStenderPhD Hi there I'm wondering about MG and if you should do multi POV or is it best to just stick to one? #askagentThat depends on whether you can pull off more than one uniquely identifiable voice.

@UweStenderPhD I see books coming out on WWII, but mine is struggling to find a home, perhaps follows history too closely and doesn't have a specific hook (tattooist of Auschwitz, dressmaker of Auschwitz, etc.) for US audiences? In many ways it mirrors what we're seeing in US today. Thoughts?I think you may be right. But, in general, historical fiction can be tough in and by itself.

@UweStenderPhD Is it ever acceptable to resubmit to an agent who rejected a query or never replied? In particular, after thorough revisions (e.g. the agent has not seen the new opening chapters before and the tone of the story has changed significantly)I would. If they don't respond at all and/or don't give you a reason, like an out of office message that details reasons for a no response, you have no idea if they received it or not.

@UweStenderPhD Hello! I was wondering if there are any little things authors can do to help your process in reading queries and pages beyond following submission guidelines and doing as the agent asks? Hope you have a nice day!Thank you, I hope you are having a good day. Hmm, I think you pretty much covered it. Yes, I can't think of anything else.

@UweStenderPhD Also, if I want to make a major change to my book that I’ve already sent and it will completely change the book into something different, should I send it back out to CPs and betas?I probably would. More eyes see more things.

@UweStenderPhD If a writer doesn’t have any previous writing credentials, what would you like to see in the bio section of the query to pique your interest instead?Any general thing you'd like to share, i.e. "I'm a middle school teacher and live in Buffalo with my two kids and three dogs..."

@UweStenderPhD Thanks for sharing your insight! Just curious, what was your biggest surprise while pitching to a publisher? No need to mention any names...I pitched a book to a big 5 publisher that I thought only a small niche publisher might buy. It was more a pitch out of desperation and no further opportunities. But none of the smaller houses wanted it. It sold to the big one.

@UweStenderPhD You are awesome, Sir! Thank you for doing this! How important do you think it is to pitch your book live, such as at a conference?
Not as important as just simply sending an email query.

Patricia Tavormina @pltavormina
@UweStenderPhD Would you pick up a manuscript for something like, say, Lolita in a MeToo era?Great writing. Arguable marketability in current climate.
No. And I never liked it to begin with whatever era.

@UweStenderPhD Would it be better to gain an agent first independently in your opinion? If agented, would an agent be willing to look at co-authored work too?I guess generally yes. Though with graphic novels an author/illustrator combo works always. And if you co-write a book with Rihanna, I will sign you, too.
And yes, I would be.

@UweStenderPhD If we take it as given that good writing, to market, will sell...Do you have thoughts on whether the industry is more geared toward one end of that or the other?
(e.g. decent writing that is marketable v. excellent writing with arguable marketability)
Well, if it is not marketable, then it won't sell. I like great writing, but not pretentious writing.

@UweStenderPhD Hi! Thank you for doing this. Do you find yourself drawn to an opening chapter with instant action, or do you prefer world-building first? Or is it case by case? Thank you! #askagentI usually like to know a little bit about the world and the protagonist, otherwise I feel lost and won't care about what happens to the person. Instant action without context generally disorients me.

@UweStenderPhD How do you feel about multiple queries at once? If someone has 3 MS's that fall onto your MSWL that are complete do you want to know about all 3 in the initial query? If not, how would it be best to address a situation like that?I personally get overwhelmed by too much initial material. So, for me, pitch me your strongest novel, and then, if I offer, we can discuss the other ones which will be very important to me at that very time.
