Query Don’ts:

—insult other books
—say your book defies genre
—use negative self talk
—ignore guidelines

Query Do’s:

—Give us the hook/high concept pitch
—Show your summary to someone who hasn’t read the book
—send it to agents individually
—write another book!

Query Tip: Don't query an idea, 1st draft, 1/2 a draft, etc. Only query when your MS is complete and the best you can make it.

A query and a synopsis are NOT the same thing

A query is like the back cover copy —it gives you just enough info to say READ ME

A synopsis tells the whole story beginning to end with spoilers and should also show character arc

#QueryTip: A synopsis should ideally (for me, anyway) be 2-3 pages long, and it should contain ALL THE SPOILERS, including the ending! When agents ask to see a synopsis, we want to see the beats and the structure of your whole story. #AmQuerying #WritingCommunity
