There's been an influx of queries being sent directly to my inbox so I need to ask... what's up? Is the submission system not working?
Help a girl figure out this mystery because I hate rejecting queries for not following instructions.

Let's be clear: no one is saying don't trust new agents. New agents are awesome. But have they had good mentorship, have they contributed to agency sales/contracts, do they network with professionals?
Starting an agency w/ 0 experience of the above? No. #querytip #amquerying

Writers, please remember: there is a difference between being a NEW AGENT and thinking you have the experience and know how to start a NEW AGENCY.
It takes YEARS and YEARS to be ready for the latter. Deciding to because, hey, I can? = super red flag #querytip #amquerying

Y'all, I'm seeing some predatory stuff on here in the last couple days. My DMs are open if you're getting an offer from an agent and are uncertain if they're legit or a schmagent... #querytip #amquerying #writingcommunity

Writers, if you see that there's a new agency open to queries & the agent(s) has no current clients, no past sales, & no real bio or experience listed, your red flag should go up. If something feels wrong or shady, it almost certainly is.

Their experience lets you research them and know if they're a fit for you or if they're shady. Having zero footprint in this industry means zero credibility to run a literary agency & the mountain that goes into that (4/4)

You should have sold subrights before/already have a plan in place for your new agency to sell these BEFORE announcing the agency opening (aka, no Coming Soon vagueness).
The industry should already know you in SOME capacity (3/4) #writingcommunity #amquerying #querytip

There's a difference b/w a new agent building their first list and an agent creating their own agency. Creating your own means you should have multiple years/sales under your belt, you should know how to handle contracts/financials (2/?)

When new agencies suddenly pop into existence... RESEARCH THEM.
Has the founder had experience agenting - YEARS, not just an internship here or there
Has the founder made sales?
Do they have an online presence aside from website? (1/?)

Soon after subbing in QueryMgr, author emailed to tell me to go read it; anoth nudged after 10 days & anoth nudged on soc media, so this seems a good time to bring up an old post: "Curb Your Insecurity: Tips on Good Submission Etiquette" relentlesswriters.blogspot.com/2015/09/curb-yโฆ #querytip #subtip

#QueryTip: Make sure to check the name, salutation, and gender of the person who you're querying, to be sure that you've spelled everything correctly and used proper pronouns and terms to address them! It's not a dealbreaker, but it helps (at least for me). #AmQuerying
