A #querytip: many agents I know (myself included) prefer not to receive queries via LinkedIn. Not meant to put anyone on blast, but it's a social network I rarely check and often results in people reaching out to me in genres I don't represent. Email is the way to go for me!

Writers, saying "I know this is a terrible query, but the manuscript is really the only thing that matters" in your query...

#QueryTip - While you can definitely send an agent multiple projects, don’t do so all at once. Send one and only send another when they respond (especially in picture books)

Quick and gentle #PubTip: writers/agents, it absolutely helps to know about just-acquired or forthcoming titles that your book might join in a category, but please do not list them as the bulk of your comparative titles in proposals!

Reminder to authors that you do not need to pay someone to query for you. Sending a query to an agent shouldn’t cost you anything and as long as you Google-How to write a query-I promise you are already ahead of the game.

#querytip: Agents don’t reject on a whim. Don’t re-query an agent who’s already passed with the exact same material. Their reason for passing will still be there and you’re wasting their time. Try someone else, revise, or try a different project.

From an agent's perspective, a high word count can be a red flag that the project is early and in need of revision.

For that reason, if your word count is high, I strongly recommend revising before submitting.

Grouchy #pubtip: I don't think there's an agent on Earth whose submissions policy is "please cold call and leave a voice message if we don't pick up." The reason Neon doesn't have an office phone # is not so that submitters can prove their hustle by finding our nonpublic cells!
