Dialogue has a rhythm to it. That’s the secret to writing it. Treating it like music.

This is why I like to tell writers to read their work aloud to themselves. Hear the rhythm of the narration, the speech, etc, and find the shape to the voice. #pubtip

#querytip checking in constantly on the status of your MS will very likely speed up the response process, but you also aren't likely to like the response you get. You don't want to come across as overly demanding or difficult to work with. Publishing is a glacially slow business.

Dear #querying #writercommunity -
I heartily suggest you research each agent you query off their agency website and follow their specifications vs. tweeting a pitch at them and asking if they'd like to read your book.

So I often get asked for advice on finding an agent and, as someone who's on my second agents, I thought I'd write an honest post about my personal journey and about how to find an agent for your CAREER ❤️ (via @PubCrawlBlog, of course!)

here’s to more thoughtful posts like these about how to find agents that are a true fit, how to navigate the author-agent relationship if priorities and goals change, and making sure you continue to be honest with yourself through the process. #pubtip

There are a lot of great writers conferences coming up this summer, so a general tip: email your MS if you get a request. No USB drives, hard copies, or anything like that. Don’t give agents/editors more stuff to lug on the plane home. #pubtip

Breaking the fourth wall (having the MC speak directly to the reader) is a very difficult thing to do in writing and should only be used for specific themes and voices. 1/3

If you're going to use a comparable title that's epic (like Harry Potter, Hunger Games, Shadow and Bone), you're setting the agent up to have huge expectations.
If you must use that title...

Point being — ALWAYS strike morality clauses. Or define them as best as possible. Though, in my experience, publishers are often okay with striking morality clauses because they’re infamously BS. #pubtip #contract

Also, MORALTY CLAUSES! They may(?) *seem* like a reasonable thing. Like if Hachette buys your book and you murder your neighbor it makes sense they wouldn’t want to work with you. #pubtip #contracts #thread
