@pinkurlers Generally, it means that picture book submissions are narrower than the other categories. For example: I really only want STEM, PB that break down gender stereotypes, and a variety of family structures for PB. but no anthropomorphism (which is big in PB)#AskECLA #AskAgent
#AskECLA #askagent It can also mean they are only doing Authors, Illustrators, or Author/Illos. So there should be more info about what is requested for PB

@dawilliamsbooks Thank u! But can u send different query/manuscripts to one agent? Like if I send a book a few weeks ago can I send another different one to same agent? If you've received a response on one query, then yes, you are able to submit another query/mss to the same (or different) agent!

Would you reconsider a project youโve previously rejected thatโs undergone a significant revision? (I donโt want to make any assumptions lol) #AskECLAMe too! But the changes really would have to be significant -- and particularly if I've already read and responded well but rejected a full manuscript. I always respond to fulls with personal notes, so if those concerns are addressed YES #askECLA #askagent

Question! Is it okay to send one agent different manuscripts and queries separately but within a short amount of time? Or if they reject one manuscript can I send them another? #AskECLAThe best thing to do is submit to one agent at a time. Once you get a rejection then you are welcome to submit to another agent. #AskECLA

๐จ Aspiring popular fiction authors must master character point of view (POV):
๐ This is storytelling from the voice/head of a character or characters
๐ Can be in 1st person (I), 3rd (s/he) or even 2nd (you)
๐ General rule, stick to one POV per scene

@Sarah_Nicolas Hi! If you are still talking questions:Is it fine to keep querying when an agent has your full (did not request exclusive), and should the author mention they have a full (or several) out in those other queries?
Thank you!
yes, it is perfectly okay and, no, you don't mention it in the query. you only notify when you have an offer of representation.

@Sarah_Nicolas Hi! Thank you for doing this! If I self-published a title years ago and completely overhauled it and changed all the names and huge amounts of plot, would this stop an agent from picking it up? And is it worth even mentioning that an earlier draft was self-pub'd?if you have a new book to query, it would be far less complicated. a lot of people's definitions of "completely overhauled" are very different, in my experience, so it's hard to say. you definitely need to mention it.

@Sarah_Nicolas Hi Sarah! How much importance, if any, do you place on a writer's social media following? Is it cool if we just focus on our writing and not on creating a community around it yet?not much. suzanne collins doesn't have a social media presence so...

@Sarah_Nicolas Hi and thank you for offering your time to answer questions. Would a historical novel set in a culture that is not the author's stand a chance at being represented and published, considering it went through a sensitivity read?i can't say one way or another, because everyone has different opinions on this. some people would consider it a no-go. obviously books like this do get published, but i do feel like publishing is leaning towards these stories being told by people in their own culture

@Sarah_Nicolas If my manuscript is for a shorter book (collection of fables, 20-25K), would you recommend going straight to small presses? Iโm finding that most agents I discover are not looking for shorter books or collections, but am unsure if thatโs broadly the caseyou're correct that most agents aren't open to shorter books or collections. if you also write novels, you could hold off on the collection and try to get an agent with a novel, then ask them about the collection. or you could go ahead and pursue small press for the collection

@Sarah_Nicolas At what point during the reading of a full do you feel you have enough info to know whether it's a rejection or an offer? If I offer, I've read the full. I read until I become aware that I don't want to rep it. I'm finding a lot of books turn on me at about 60%.

@Sarah_Nicolas How personalized should/shouldnโt a query to an agent be?It's ok if it's not personalized, imo. But if there's something specific on their wishlist that's in your book, definitely mention it because it makes us take notice. By specific I mean "small town setting" not "you represent young adult"
