@UweStenderPhD If an author published with a small press (very limited marketing and distribution), would you have any interest in a query about representation for unexploited rights?Thank you!
*I* would not, but other agents may. 👍

@UweStenderPhD How/when should an author disclose their past representation and submission history?Simply mention it in the query.

@UweStenderPhD Do you represent international writers?Yes, quite a lot, actually.

@UweStenderPhD Ok. Annndddddd if I have a book but I don’t know that I want the title to be... that, how do I query it and can it change at anytime? Would publishing companies try to change it/ offer a suggestion?Titles are not that important to me unless they are truly imbecilic or pretentious. Most likely they will get changed along the way.

@UweStenderPhD How do you get an agent if you’re writing different genres? For example, I wrote an uplifting picture book but I’m also working on a psychological thriller.
Is it even possible to get an agent in this case?
Yes. Try us.

@UweStenderPhD Do agents negotiate on your terms? I’ve heard authors pay to go on the press tours (hotel, transport, etc) is that for every author or is that in contract terms? It is negotiated at the contract stage. Your agent will do their best, hopefully.

@UweStenderPhD I heard they changed the pay structure from the typical two payment advance and royalties to a three payment advance structure. I don’t understand it. But I’ve seen critique and it doesn’t seem good. Why’d they do it? Is it good for us?Oh, ok. It's utter BS to pay a part of an advance a year post publication. BUT, I can't change what I can't change. A pandemic justifies a lot of things, but not everything.

@UweStenderPhD Can you share any "must-have" elements that a query includes, or does it always come down to the quality of a sample and your MSWL?I can't speak for others. For me it's simply what I find intriguing.

@UweStenderPhD Happy new year, Uwe. Do you personally offer representation on books you know will fit into the market or ones that you love despite sellability but are willing to champion?I only rep books I LOVE. I am too old to waste my time on market condition drivel.

@UweStenderPhD Let’s say you sign someone. And the book they’re working on is 1 of a series and it gets sold. After that publication of your author wants to work on another stand alone book between book 1 &2, is that something publishing does? Or do you have to finish the series first? It depends on the option language your agent can get you.

@UweStenderPhD When a query blows off your socks, is it mostly the specific project? Or is it a combo of project and author profile/potential?In fiction it's the project. In nonfiction the platform.

@UweStenderPhD How do you balance all the things you have to do in a day/week (reading, revisions, answering queries, talking to editors & submitting, etc.)? Do you have dedicated times for certain tasks or pick based on deadlines or what you feel like doing?Great question. Deadlines and "musts." Currently, I MUST do 1099s and taxes, so I am not reading anything. And I no longer read on vacations. So, if you have a manuscript with me, PLEASE be patient, because I am weeks behind.

@UweStenderPhD Perfect segue into my question. Do you find the current state of the nation (and the world) affects what you enjoy reading and/or the way you might react to a submission? For me, yes. I don't want virus or pandemic submissions. I LIVE it, I don't want to read about it. Sooo, give me escapism.

@UweStenderPhD Is it taboo to resubmit the same project to an agent if it has been substantially revised after 5-6 months?Taboo is a strong word. I can only speak for myself: if I didn't request an R&R, I am not interested.

@UweStenderPhD How has the consolidation of publishing companies impacted your work, if at all? What does the trend imply for writers and agents in the future? So far so good for us.
I don't know. Essentially, I believe that people who think they can predict future outcomes are narcissistic and delusional, so I am not joining that group.
