I always like surprises. But right now: YA and MG graphic novels, Rom-coms and smart thrillers for all ages.

I don't have a definite advice, but I'd say somewhere between pages 8-15.

I genuinely don't know what the market will be looking for. I personally would be open to Covid existing as a backdrop, ie a murder mystery, or a rom-com etc. But not with it as the primary focus.

I don't think it's going anywhere. But even if it did, write what you feel passionate about. If you're a great writer with great passion for your book, you'll write a great book. If you write a great book, it will all work out.

Or if you have ONE character to focus on, that's fine, too. You could do 1st character & then say "2 povs" or whatever it is, so we know this isn't IT.

This depends on the query, but I usually read the whole thing regardless. Lots of times the first two pages aren't really where the crux is, so reading to the end gives me an idea if I want to read more & get further in, esp if it just needs an edit. #askdvpit

it totally depends on the agent, and the worst you can do is ask to send again and see what they say... but i wouldn't use your first impression on a book you KNOW isn't done. #askDVpit

I don't think this is something we can know until they happen (pandemic + election +++), but I DO know that I and lots of other agents I know ARE selling books right now. Keep in mind, publishing acquires for 2-3 years out sometimes. #askdvpit - If no books are acquired, then-

only query when you're ready with your manuscript. most agents don't look twice, so trying to avoid them being closed could spell out a different disaster! #askDVpit
