@UweStenderPhD While book 1 is out for query, do you suggest writing book 2 or working on something new all together? Also, how do we get rid of the query nerves? Cuz the bubble guts are real! Lol
If it is a series, I would plot book 2, but not write it until book 1 sells. So, ideally, you ought to work on an unrelated project.
Don't think about it. The worst outcome: rejections. But maybe some of them can be helpful for round 2 if that is necessary.

@UweStenderPhD Beefeater has long been my favorite gin, but I feel bourgeois drinking it. Any advice? Also, after 2 years of major revisions, I'll soon be ready to resubmit a manuscript. Will I need to start over with an entirely new query? A discussion of how I addressed prev. issues?
Advice: life is too short to waste on cheap gin. Buy the best gin you can afford. Life can change in a second, you may die surprisingly, so enjoy your Beefeater before you do.
Just query it, especially since the revisions were major.

@UweStenderPhD And one more... any suggestions for querying dual POV? Any particular way you think it works best to present a clear yet accurate query? Not really, just query it properly.

@UweStenderPhD If you previously requested material from an author, do you want to know that the next time they query you? Should they mention it in the query?I don't think it matters either way. I certainly won't remember. I don't judge you just because I may have rejected prior work from you. My "dream" editor rejected 22 previous submissions from me, before she offered and published an Uwe-repped novel. It's not personal for me.

@UweStenderPhD My debut is coming in January 2021. What are you telling your authors to do during this period when in-person events and other forms of promotion aren’t possible? Any tips you can share about what’s working well? What isn’t?It's tough, but there are many opportunities like zoom/blog/insta/ etc events. You and your agent ought to work ever more closely with marketing and PR at your publisher to coordinate and brainstorm.

@UweStenderPhD Dr Uwe! So nice to see you here. I'm curious--have you seen a shift in genre or plot in your queries since the quarantine began? Not really, only that *I* am not interested in any books about pandemics.

@UweStenderPhD @kianangu How important are prior publishing credits (published short stories in mags or anthologies) when evaluating a query? For me, in fiction, unimportant. To me the work you query stands on its own.

@UweStenderPhD Hi, Uwe, thank you for doing this. If an editor shows interest during a pitch event, do we touch base/say thanks, or wait until we have rep? Their pinned tweet for the event specified agented subs only.I would take note of who the person is, and then once you have agent representation you should tell the agent who the editors were who liked it. That way you and your agent can make adjustments to the ultimate submission strategy.

@katenashagent This is so insightful and useful. I now have an agent😀 but it would have been wonderful if earlier rejections had included this kind of short feedback. Would that be feasible generally? Asking for the #WritingCommunityAn agent looking at submissions is like scrolling through Netflix. Some stuff grabs you, you engage, find out more. Other stuff no, scroll on.
Subs I read diligently I will include a line of feedback. But those simply "not my subject" I can't. It's just "not for me". #AskAgent

Thinking about the response to my royalty tweet, and @nikeshshukla's research that the mysteries of the publishing process are creating barriers, here is a very general guide to the trad pub model from an author's perspective. Contracts vary, these are broad strokes, stay calm...This is a great thread for new/hopeful authors re the payment structures in traditional publishing...#amwriting #submissions #askagent Thanks @MaryAliceEvans

@jounwin Hi Jo and team. Do you think that’s there’s still a place for ‘quiet’ dramas? Mine is a dual narrative family drama set in 1938 and 2017 and that’s the kind of thing I like to read but it’s not very ‘trendy’ these days! #askagentI personally think dual narrative family dramas are a bit of an evergreen so I wouldn't worry about it! If it also features secrets -oh, and if it happens to be set somewhere remote and grand, I am basically sold.

#askagent, I’ve heard from a few writer friends that they had agents say they love the submission but don’t sign the author. What may be reasons behind this?Several reasons: it could be that they represent something too similar, that they just don't think they'd be able to sell it, that their lists are very full, or that it's in an area they don't really work.

How do I choose an agent for my non-fiction book? Does it have to be complete? How do I find which agent represented a similar book in my genre. #AskAgentDo some research. The Writers & Artists yearbook and websites like Jericho Writers are great resources.
Non-fiction doesn't always have to be finished but you would need a clear outline and sample chapters.

@mushenska @MyRejections I remember thanking you for your rejection on a book that was later published. You were kind enough to then offer to re-read if I did work on it. It was so encouraging so I was pretty pleased I didn't reply, 'screw you Mushens I'm the next JK!' #justsayin #AskAgentYes worth remembering that a no for that book doesn’t mean a no for the next one! @jounwin @mushenska @MyRejections A related question, out of curiosity, when you’re reading a submission how quickly do you tend to get a sense for whether it’s potentially really interesting (ie read on) or regretfully perhaps move on?I read as much as I need to! Sometimes that can be the pitch letter before realising it isn’t for me, sometimes it can be 50pp before I realise the writing doesn’t work, or the concept isn’t strong enough etc #askagent

Afternoon! I write YA Sci-Fi. I've been told there's more market for that in the USA, do you think that's the case and therefore would it be better to submit overseas as well as to UK agents? Thanks! #askagentYes you certainly can try both markets #askagent
