Melody Robinette @MelodyRobinette

@UweStenderPhD Do you think there will ever be a space for YA/Adult crossover books? (Not NA😂)
Replying to @MelodyRobinette

In my opinion, YES. But apparently US publishers by and large, despite protestations, disagree with me. In other countries that is not necessarily so.

M. Charles is drafting @2TheImp

@UweStenderPhD Yay for the win!

I was recently told that male MCs sell better in MG than YA. Have you found that to be true? I rewrote my ms to shift the voice from upper MG to low YA, and now wonder if I should’ve stuck to the original version. #askagent

I don't know. I think it is tough to sell either way. That's one of the reasons why I wouldn't take heed in any "told thats." Write the book you want to write. Stick to your vision, your story, and don't get off track because of background noise. Those "opinions" are drivel.

Q9. What part of your job do you love the most? @hgweatherill #UKRomChat pic.twitter.com/tp94dl1agl

Q9 - Nothing beats telling an author they’ve got a book deal (especially a debut!). But it’s lovely to guide authors through every aspect of their careers, and I love being able to chat to editors all over the world. #UKRomChat

Q8 - Anything at all! When you’ve got an offer of rep, it’s important to make an informed decision. This should be the start of a long, successful working relationship, so you need to get to know us and make sure our style and vision for your work feels right for you. #UKRomChat

Q7. What are the most common mistakes people make when submitting to you? @hgweatherill #UKRomChat pic.twitter.com/xzBMPzDDZV

Q7 - Weirdly, the most common mistake is people addressing their queries to Heather instead of Hannah! It happens a lot…but while it’s a bit weird, it’s not a dealbreaker. Rather than getting hung up on possible mistakes - 1/2 #UKRomChat

Q6. What’s the most important part of the submission for you, what do you read first and what would turn you off? @hgweatherill #UKRomChat pic.twitter.com/i3ZZeclseh

Q6 - The concept and the quality of the writing are key. I look at the query letter for the concept, or the synopsis if necessary, and then the sample chapters to get an idea of the voice. I try to go into every submission with an open mind! #UKRomChat

Replying to @rebecca_duval_

To be honest I didn't know literary agents existed until I'd finished uni and realised that publishing was a thing...but it does feel like a great fit for me. There are lots of books, lots of chatting, and the nitty gritty negotiating side of things is good fun too 👍 #UKRomChat

Q4. What do you offer authors when you represent them? @hgweatherill #UKRomChat pic.twitter.com/u1S22HvTOr

Q4 - As agents, we work with authors to give them the best possible chance of getting published, which involves giving lots of editorial guidance and putting your manuscript in front of editors we think will love it. 1/2 #UKRomChat

Q3 - you’re asking readers to invest a lot of time in your novel, so they need to like your characters enough to go on that journey with them. I love to see stories with a kind of love at first sight, like ONE DAY IN DECEMBER, and epic love stories like ONE DAY. 2/2 #UKRomChat

Q3. So, what’s on your #MSWL right now? @hgweatherill #UKRomChat pic.twitter.com/DCjtkR8JOH

Q3 - We represent a wide variety of fiction authors, but the two most important ingredients are a) a brilliant concept and b) excellent writing. I LOVE love stories, in whatever form, but the important thing is that the characters are relatable and convincing – 1/2 #UKRomChat

Q2. You’re an agent with @NorthbankTalent what’s that like and how did you get there? #UKRomChat pic.twitter.com/1i9RiqTXir

Q2 - It’s a brilliant, varied job. I look after our clients, which involves something different for each of them – if they’re not under contract yet, I’m either editing their manuscript or pitching it to editors and scouts, or negotiating deals for them. 1/...3? #UKRomChat
