@UweStenderPhD How much does the number of clients you have signed in a given time period affect your ability/desire to sign more? If you've already recently signed someone, are you less likely to sign someone else even if you really like their work?It plays a role, but if the book is great, I will still go for it (plus people fire me, so spots become available 😂.)

@UweStenderPhD Do you have any tips for searching for a perfect fit while #amquerying? Not really. Look at the various websites, check agencies and agents, read interviews, and see what they DO rather than what they SAY they do, and go from there.

@UweStenderPhD What is your advice for authors who write across multiple genres? For me they’re close - domestic suspense and thrillers. For branding purposes, can you mix it up? Or would you advise to stick to one?I am not 100% sure I understand what you mean. BUT if your first book sells and is a thriller, I would write a thriller as my second book.

@UweStenderPhD What do you want authors to consider most before submitting to you? That I actually rep what you write.

@UweStenderPhD "After submitting to X agents with no interest, it's time to shelve it."Assuming up front there are a thousand unpredictable factors that play into it, every book is different, etc. - what's your gut-check number for X?
(Thanks for always entertaining questions!)
I don't know. *I* wouldn't quit until I queried every legitimate and good agent I could find. Simultaneously, I would write another book.

@UweStenderPhD Does it make a difference to you if a MG story is told in 3rd person omniscient instead of first POV. I’ve seen both done well. Not sure what the market now prefers.No. As long as it's done well, it works, if it's not, it won't.

@UweStenderPhD Are R&R's as subjective as the querying process? What would you be looking for if you sent an R&R? Thank you!Yes. I would give you specific issues to address, and see what happens after you will have considered them.

@UweStenderPhD When reading a submission, how much of your decision is based on where you think the book fits in the market vs. how much the writing/story sparks an interest?I am focused on what I love. BUT, as I am evaluating it, if I cannot come up in my mind with at least 10 editors who I think might love it, I won't offer rep, because I don't like the odds.

💡Writers! Did you know the trade association for literary agencies in the UK is the AAA and that it maintains a code of practice that member agencies must adhere to for the provision of best practice in agenting services?agentsassoc.co.uk/about/code-of-…

@BookEndsJessica PS I should add this agent has lots of titles listed on their website - books and authors — whom I don’t see on PM. Legit agency. Just not sure how to interpret.Funny you should ask. This video just posted: youtu.be/GLHv7UB1-38 #askagent

@BookEndsJessica #askagent I see conflicting information all over for what’s coming considered average word count by genre. How much should an author be concerned about this? Is a few thousand words over the average an automatic no?I would say 5,000-10,000 words is where it gets risky. Editing never hurt anyone. #askagent

@BookEndsJessica Another question. How important are book signing events, book promotion tours and media events for authors? Especially for foreign authors like myself, who might find it difficult to be in the US or elsewhere for long period of times. Thanks. #askagentIn truth, they don't sell many books and don't happen as frequently as you might think #askagent No need to come to the US all to be published here.

@BookEndsJessica #askagent What is your general stance on new adult? Do you consider it a legitimate age category?I don't know whether I'd say legitimate or not. Market wise it just hasn't sold that well. Most new adult is now selling either as YA or Adult. #askagent

@BookEndsJessica #askagentHi Jessica
Two questions.
Is there a special program I need to buy to sign the bottom of a query when sending it?
Are comps limited to book titles? My manuscript is similar to the Apocolypto movie.
Comps are not limited to book titles. Movies & TV work well too. Just make sure they are recent (within 3 years). A standard email signature is fine for queries. #askagent

@jmcgowanbks @AliceArley @BookEndsJessica Is this true of novel/story manuscripts as well? I’ve heard the same about agents wanting novelists that aren’t one-time deals, but heard another say she would only want to hear about one without mention of others completed. Matter of opinion or general advice? #askagentNot exactly. For a novel submission, I’m primarily looking at that one novel, but it can be helpful to know what else has been completed or what’s in the works. But I’ll ask about those when I need to know more, there’s no need to mention it in the query. #askagent

@BookEndsJessica Hi Jessica, how easy (or difficult) is it for a book to become a movie or a TV show? Have you had any of your clients' books portrayed on the big screen? And by "big screen" I mean movie theaters or a roaring 60-inch TV in your house (God bless Netflix). Thanks. #askagentlol. We have had projects made into "big screen" and it's not simple. Think of all the incredible books published and read every year that never make it to screen. #askagent
