@UweStenderPhD Thanks for the feedback! As a follow-up, would sending an "Offer In Hand" to appropriate agents who have never seen the manuscript at all be acceptable?I think it is all acceptable. You need to look out for #1, i.e. YOU. Go for it, and good luck and success!

@UweStenderPhD I'm writing a humorous sci-fi that will end up ~60K. Given the book's quirkiness, the lower word count, and the fact that it's in the humor category, I suspect this wouldn't be a good fit for agent queries. I currently plan to shop small presses. Before I do that, am I wrong?I only rep YA sci-fi, so if this is adult, then ignore what I will write. It seems too short etc., but I honestly don't know.

@UweStenderPhD Would it be acceptable, if you have a low advance-paying offer from a small press, to send an "Offer In Hand" query to agents who had requested and passed on the full of a previous version of the manuscript, before the heavy revisions that led to the advance-paying offer?I honestly don't know. If *I* passed on a manuscript, I would not care about offers. I would not reconsider. But (many) other agents may feel very differently.

@UweStenderPhD If an agent asks for your whole manuscript, but you have a conference coming and can get some peer reviews, can you wait? Should you let them know why? How long is OK?I cannot speak for others. But personally, I don't care. If I request it, I am interested. If I am interested, it does not matter to me when you send it. I don't need you to explain why or why not. But that is just how I conduct business.

@UweStenderPhD #askagent is it important to have a huge social media presence? For nonfiction: yes. For fiction: no.

@UweStenderPhD How often would you say you pass on a query you think would make a good book, but you just aren't passionate enough to take on the manuscript? Thanks! #askagentMany, many, many times. I am only able to handle x-amounts of clients time management wise, so I cannot take on everything I love.

@UweStenderPhD If an agent is generous enough to offer for you to revise & resubmit, do you resend the query with the attached ms whenever you *finally* finish?Yes, it would be a great reminder.

@UweStenderPhD If an agent requested your full MS and passed, and now (18 months later) you are re-querying with another MS, do you mention their interest in the first one? If so, how do you do this tactfully? You can. You don't have to. I would not worry about it.

@UweStenderPhD Why is there a bigger trade market for history bks vs lit crit bks #askagentI don't know. But personally, I prefer history books over specialized literary critique books. Maybe that's because I had to read more literary critique books for my Ph.D than I could stand.

@UweStenderPhD With the growing audio first deals, do you think it’s worthwhile to write books that would specifically work well for the format? Not for me. I just want a great book, because I believe that a great book will sell in all formats (incl. audio, film etc., and all territories) IF it truly is great. Other agents may disagree. But I come from a different culture, and can't escape my belief in awesome books.

@UweStenderPhD We all know that agents love when writers research and make sure their work fits their MSWL. Aside from an excellent query letter and following submission guidelines, what really gets an agent's attention? That is so tough to answer. The cliche "I know it when I see it," fits for me. If I feel intrigued by the story/plot, I will request to see the project.

@BookEndsJessica If you're willing to humor me, I have a question. How do you know if your publisher is working for you or just working for your money?I'm always open for questions. Money should always flow to the author, never to the publisher. This way the publisher works and everyone is earning money. #askagent

@BookEndsJessica @MrBeece @dongwon So, if you get an offer, use that info and contact other agents you’ve submitted to? Should you call or email?I would contact them via email or Query Manager in the case of @bookendslit -- in other words the same way you queried them. @CortneyRadocaj @thekatsmews Thank you for taking the time to do this. Is a query letter better off with accurate but dated comps, or no comps at all?If you can have a new comp with an old comp, that’s good! Two or more old comps make me wonder if you’re not up to date on where the market is at 😊

@CortneyRadocaj @thekatsmews Possibly a stupid question, but I'm seeing people talk about literary, upmarket, and commercial works and I'm not sure what the differences are. I'm from the playwrighting world, so these are new terms to me. Sorry for the basic questions! Not a stupid question at all! Upmarket is a blending of literary and commercial. I actually wrote a blog post on the differences and please feel free to check it out!
