Hi @LinaLanglee and @katenashagent My question is about the cover letter and how it should be addressed...Dear Ms Langlee - too formal?
Dear Lina - too informal?
Dear Lina Langlee - too "awkward"?
What are your thoughts?
Thanks #askagent
Anything that involves an actual correct agent or agency name is great. #askagent

@LinaLanglee @katenashagent going back to synopsis for a second...would a poorly written one put you off reading a submission, or would you have read it by then already? #askagentI personally read your main email and go straight for the sample. A synopsis is a good writing exercise so there's likely a correlation between a bad synopsis & a bad submission, but I'd let the sample do the talking. #AskAgent

#askagent What kind of information about an author is useful/interesting to receive as part of a query? (This is my second question so ignore it if I'm being greedy!) @katenashagent @LinaLangleeI really like to see a phone number - because I might want to call the author! #askagent

Any tips for a cracking query? #askagentRead the agent submission guidelines (ours are here: katenashlit.co.uk/submissions/) and tailor your query to the agents you want to represent you by telling them exactly why you are approaching them in particular. #askagent

Dear Lina and Kate is nice, but as long as you don't go 'Dear Sirs' I have no objections. #AskAgent

@LinaLanglee Hello. There’s literally hundreds of agents listed in the Writers’ and Artists’ Yearbook looking for writers who stand out from the crowd. As someone looking at agents what makes your agency stand out from the crowd? #askagentHi Nick. Reading is subjective so it is great to have lots of agents out there with varying reading tastes. Your agent should be your champion so loving your story is no 1. We work closely with our authors, share sub info, have a great track record and we're jolly nice #AskAgent

#AskAgent I write light romantic suspense with a HEA (includes swearing and sex - full disclosure) - my question is, does it fall under 'uplit' as it turns out 'uplifting' and is obviously fiction or does the term refer to a more literary style? @LinaLanglee @katenashagentUplit is about the issues in the story as well as the ending. The pioneering book of this new genre is Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine. #askagent

I'll #askagent about genre. I hear traditional gets VERY box-y. Is there a chance for a more literary, women's fiction-style fantasy (not magical realism, full secondary world but no magic/elves etc)? I'm debating between requerying one I did too early or pursuing self-pub.

Hi @katenashagent & @LinaLanglee I was wondering how closely you work together - do you ever share projects of is it separate client lists? #askagentHi Marisa! We work really closely, so with submission we will always discuss with each other and pass along something that might not be for us but that we think the other might like. We have separate lists but a few projects we share #Askagent

My initial submission wasn't successful, but I asked an editor to help, + she prepared a much more systematic + organised pitch, then found an agent immediately; would you recommend this? #askagentIt is certainly worth spending time getting your pitch right so that you can present what your work is about succinctly and grab the attention of agents. #askagent

@katenashagent @LinaLanglee #AskAgent Do you have a MSWL?I don't have a MWSL because I find looking at submissions a bit like clothes shopping - better to be open minded and see what's out there than have too many pre-fixed ideas. #askagent

@katenashagent @LinaLanglee With such a wide variety of genres and sub-genre books flooding the market, aside from a well written story with engaging characters, what are you looking for in submissions for 2019? #askagentI think a cracking story with a good voice will always work! Having said that, I am LOVING the trend towards gothic/horror and would love to sign some. And there's a lot of people who haven't seen themselves represented in many genres yet so would love more diversity #askagent

Hi Lina and Kate,Thank you for putting on this session.
A lot of chat about it being harder to place YA with the publishers at the moment.
Are you finding this? Is MG selling well at the moment?
#askagent
I think YA has been trickier in a last couple of years but it's still a super exciting innovative area in publishing. And there is always a market for middle grade, especially series and stories with international potential. #askagent

@katenashagent @LinaLanglee #AskAgent Do you have a MSWL?Wishlists are tricky because they are always changing BUT, I would definitely like to sign some ‘uplit’, a good crime procedural series and a bunch of YA. And I would love to see more diversity in all the aforementioned categories! #AskAgent

Hello @LinaLanglee and @katenashagentHow do you think the digital imprints of large publishers - and smaller e-pub publishers are changing the face of publishing from authors' perspectives? #AskAgent
In short, boosting fiction reading - so actually growing the market - and earning authors more money #askagent

@katenashagent @LinaLanglee Hi, I was wondering if either of you had any thoughts/comments on the recently reported fall of 22% in the UK YA market. Also, why does the appetite for YA in the US appear to be much stronger? Thanks #askagentHi Elizabeth 👋
I'm not overly worried about this. Last year saw a lot of BIG movie tie-ins which boosts sales. I suspect we'll see lots more of this. I think the overall market is strong though, and if the US appetite is stronger we just have something to work towards! #AskAgent

@katenashagent I don’t often get such prompt feedback from agents on questions like this. It means a lot. CheersQuestion for you: what is PB? If picture books I am afraid we don't represent these. There are plenty of good agencies who do, however. #askagent
