#AskUpstart I’ve been told to never call an agent. Yet a published author told me it’s okay to call if you get an offer/book deal from an editor. Then it’s okay to call the agent and ask for representation. Do you agree?I'd say that this depends on the agent. I'd rather you email and tell me first, so that we can set up time for a call. #AskUpstart

#askupstart When you like a pitch at a pitch event does that get priority over other pitches in the inbox? It depends, but most times I go strictly in order of received. #askUpstart

Is sophisticated language okay in middle grade novels? #AskUpstartSo hard to say without knowing specifics! but I don't think there's any problem with it, depending on what it is and what your story is about. #AskUpstart

What do you think of "quiet" novels? How do you define "quiet?" #AskUpstart"Quiet" isn't really defined in one way, that's in the reader's response. I do want to feel deeply connected, and pulled into a story. For me, something too quiet would fail to do that. #askUpstart
