When I'm in the mood for something slightly darker, I enjoy gothic-inspired fiction with old-creaking manors, wintery settings and eerie undertones...

Uplifting feel-good fiction is also a must, with a hint of magic or fully grounded in the real world. Compelling love stories w authentic characters & chemistry will always sweep me away. You know that feeling when you want to throw a book across the room because of the yearning?

Another obsession of mine is books about books, especially magical ones. Two recent favourites included Ink Blood Sister Scribe by Emma Törzs and The Book of Doors by Gareth Brown 📚

Quirky, magical or atmospheric settings will always be high on my priority list, whether that’s an ever-shifting city like Venice reimagined in The Passion, a travelling belle-époque hotel from Hotel Magnifique, or the gothic estate in Gallant.

Within the fantasy genre, I yearn for fairytale fiction in the vein of Stephanie Garber, wholesome quests that bring me back to my first reading of The Hobbit and whimsical stories that feel low stakes in terms of plot, but convey a sense of jeopardy in the emotional stakes ⚔️♥️

When the seasons start to turn, I find myself reaching for the comfort of a good classic. I also enjoy exploring new ground with a good retelling. Think along the lines of The Bear and the Nightingale, Spinning Silver, The Deathless Girls and, of course, the iconic Bridget Jones.

Cosy season calls for books that are good to the soul – the perfect antidote to our busy, messy lives – the kind of stories you want to hold onto and escape into, again and again, preferably in front of a blazing fire, glass of wine in hand 🍷
