@UweStenderPhD Oh, ok. I was just wondering since some of the agents I've reached out to in the past request sample pages (usually the first five).Oh, ok I misunderstood. Send the first 5, but prologues can be problematic. And since you're wondering if you should include it, you *may* not need it.

@UweStenderPhD @MalloryCBrown How quickly into reading a sub, do you know if you’ll request a full? And what helps you make that decision? #askagentIf I find a query intriguing, I always request the full, it's just an email away after all.

Sonja Jorsen @SonjaJorsen
@UweStenderPhD What are the most common reasons for you to reject a book after a full request? When I sign a book, I know that I have to re-read over and over again during the editing process. If I like a book, but don't LOVE it that way, I will pass.
Literary Agent
Shelly Jarvis @shellyjarvis
@UweStenderPhD @MalloryCBrown Do you ever consider accepting novellas (especially with last year’s success of Bolander’s “The Only Harmless Great Thing”) or are they only viable as magazine submissions?I don't, but I am sure that other agents do.

CT Danford @Ctanz731
@UweStenderPhD @MalloryCBrown What exactly is meant by Book Club Fiction? Is it always literary or can it be commercial as well? #askagentCertainly both. It is a book that is worth discussing by well read readers.

Aneta Cruz @AnetaCruz
@UweStenderPhD @MalloryCBrown How long before I can give a friendly nudge to agents who’ve had my full MS?I would give it 8 weeks.

Lydia Lukidis @LydiaLukidis
@UweStenderPhD #askagent Do you think it's an agent's job to simply rep the work he-she feels passionate about, or, is their job to rep quality work and make the editors feel that spark? (agents must love the author's work, but they may not feel as excited about every single project)That is too confusing to answer. I only rep what I love and then will do whatever I can to sell.

@UweStenderPhD What if you get no response from said nudge?Nudge once more, and then move on.

@UweStenderPhD #askagent What is the most memorable story you have read recently that you did not sign, and why didn't you sign the author? (or... what keeps you from signing an author you feel has potential)None...except those who would not accept representation.

@UweStenderPhD #askagent My MS is Women's Fiction with a strong rom-com elements. Is it okay to query it as WF?Yes, absolutely.

Kiana Harris @Kiana_Tamarie
@UweStenderPhD Hi! I was wondering what your opinion is on softer heroines in fantasy compared to the current trend of hardened, slightly angry ones? Are they harder to be invested in and/or sell? Thank you!#AskAgent
I think it is ok...

Lisa-Marie Cifuentes @MissLambchop
@UweStenderPhD @nearonis Hello! My YA fantasy got 2 likes from editors at Harper Collins during SFFpit. I know I can’t send to the editors unless I’m agented. But is their interest something worth mentioning to agents as I query this project? Or is that a no-no?I would say yes, it is worth mentioning.

@UweStenderPhD What tips can you give for in-person agent pitching?Don't be nervous.

@UweStenderPhD Scale of 1-1010 = "Must see these pages"
1 = "An email full of drunken rambling"
What's the quality level of your typical cold query email sitting at? Is it a nice clean bell curve around that point or all over the place?
(Thanks!)
Dear Mother of God. It honestly is all over the place. 99% (rough approximation) are 6-10, because querying writers usually are quite strong. The remaining 1% are CLEARLY 1 or 0 or minus grades.

@UweStenderPhD If a writer finishes another project how soon is too to query Trida again? Some agents like us to wait a long time. I can't remember your answer from the last time. #AskAgentAs long as it is not instantly, it's ok.

Carly Huss @CarlyHussWrites
@UweStenderPhD I understand that when an agent says no, they are saying no to the project not the author. Is it the same with a publisher?Of course. Business is not personal. It's just business. One of my proudest sales was to an editor who had rejected me 19 times before they bought the first of mine. Since then they bought a bunch, and still rejects a bunch.
