@UweStenderPhD So is it “no from one means no from all?”No, not at all. Maybe my answer was not clear. Say you query me and I like it, but have something similar already, I may refer you to one of the others. Or not. If I do, query them. If I don't, you can still query them.
Literary Agent
Glynis @glynisratcliffe
@UweStenderPhD What advice would you give to a writer who has a “golden” premise for a memoir (as told by other agents), with the bones of the story written, but needs to raise funds for travel to complete the story arc and research?Totally asking for a friend, of course.
Sell the memoir on proposal.
Literary Agent
Real Marjo @RealMarjo
@UweStenderPhD How many agents can I query at the same time? Like, are simultaneous submissions okay, and if so, is there an unspoken cap on the number?Within the same agency NO, not simultaneously. But as far as querying in general goes, however many you want. Query 20, 50 whatever.

Becky Shillington @BeckyShillingtn
@UweStenderPhD How actively are you (or your team) looking for picture book writers at this time?Brent is for sure, maybe Lauren. My list is full. Laura and Amelia are not looking for them.

@UweStenderPhD Growing up I loved "Dear Mr. Henshaw" because I found it funny how the boy expressed his emotions (anger about lunch being stolen). Do you think feeling are important in kids' books?I think feeling is important in any novel.
Literary Agent
Shereen Cook @ShereenCook
@UweStenderPhD I have heard that the book should be able to “stand on its own,” but what does that look like for you? I’m having a hard time conceptualizing how a book could stand on its own and also have a cliffhanger!Go to Netflix, watch the entire season of Babylon Berlin, and when you finished the last episode, you will know exactly. 100% guaranteed.
Literary Agent
Melissa Charles @2TheImp
@UweStenderPhD What's the most difficult aspect of being an agent that most aren't aware of? What makes a 'good' or 'difficult' author for an agent?Wow. I cannot answer the first one. There is too much. People don't really know unless they have done this job for a while. I don't sign 'difficult' authors, I weed them out before I would offer.
Literary Agent
Berinna Chambers @happywriter2017
@UweStenderPhD What makes you connect with a MC?The voice.
Literary Agent
Kira Hawkins @KiraHawkins7
@UweStenderPhD Do all agents at Triada US accept LGBTQ literature? Also, how many times can you drop the f-bomb before a book is no longer considered "young adult?"Yes we do, why wouldn't we? I have no idea about the amount of use of the f-bomb.
Literary Agent
Shereen Cook @ShereenCook
@UweStenderPhD Okay I’m gonna go ahead and get another one out there bc I am running out the door. Thanks in advance! When pitching a duology, is it best to pitch the conflict arc of the series or stick to talking about the first book?Focus on book 1.
Literary Agent
Miranda González @miranda_write
@UweStenderPhD When I am rejected by agents, should I send emails thanking them for their time? Or is the best thank you of all no more emails from me? 😂You don't have to, just query them with your next book. And it is NOT you who is rejected, just This.Particular.Manuscript.
Literary Agent
Berinna Chambers @happywriter2017
@UweStenderPhD How do you know when your manuscript is perfect and ready to query? When you really cannot improve it further, and any further revisions are based on obsessive perfectionism or procrastination to query it.
Literary Agent
Shereen Cook @ShereenCook
@UweStenderPhD Jumping off from my last question, is it better to pitch a YA book that’s too long (130k) and split it if asked, or go ahead and split it now and pitch as a duology?I don't know. And I don't know the book...130 k is mighty long though.
Literary Agent
Shereen Cook @ShereenCook
@UweStenderPhD Is it a turn-off to pitch a duology when the first book ends in a cliffhanger and cannot stand on its own?Not a turn off, but the book should stand alone with the cliffhanger inducing more want to read feel in the reader, but not leave the reader frustrated.
Literary Agent
Sir Whitney @whitney_DG
@UweStenderPhD What’s on your MSWL for YA beyond good writing and story telling?Really that is all I want. Genre etc is irrelevant to me. Surprise me.
Literary Agent
Kira Hawkins @KiraHawkins7
@UweStenderPhD Do you have any advice for young authors? The same as I have for old writers: hone your craft, write a great book, be open to critiques, and don't let naysayers bring you down.
Literary Agent
Berinna Chambers @happywriter2017
@UweStenderPhD Hi, Uwe. Hope you had a nice day. What do you think of a really short ( 1-2) page chapter in a book?Fine by me. And thank you, every day is a good day.
Literary Agent
M Molloy @mzmolloy
@UweStenderPhD I really struggle because my characters are unlikeable. Do you have any thoughts on unlikeable characters? (I realise this is a broad subject.) Thank you! ☺️Well, make them likeable. Give a "villain" a reason why they are the way they are. Killmonger in the Black Panther movie is the antagonist, but I liked him. Or Dexter is a serial killer, but we root for him.
