Writers, please note, word count estimates change every couple years depending on market. PLEASE only trust sources that were posted within the last 3 years when deciding on your novel's word count ❤️ #querytip #amqueryingThe best thing you can do is look at debut authors from your genre and category from the last three years and check their word counts. #querytip #amwriting #writingtip

I don't know who needs to hear this today. But keep trying. Keep going. You'll get there someday. #amquerying #querytip #querying #WritingCommnunity #amwriting

The best way to show an agent that your novel is high concept is to write a one (at most two) line hook/logline in your query letter before your summary. #querytip #amquerying

Good morning! Today I want to post a link that writers might find helpful if they were ever given feedback saying their writing was monotonous or repetitive. #querytip #amwriting #amquerying

If I have any black or other POC authors querying me, please let me know here or by DM. I want to make your queries a priority or at least give constructive feedback on my passes. Your voices matter. They are NEEDED. I want to help. #amagenting #querytip

Give yourself the best chance at catching an agent's interest, please research the difference between a "query letter" and "synopsis". Thank you! I hope you are having a good day! #amquerying #querytip

Here's a secret: sometimes I search for #mswl in my query box to see if someone mentions submitting to me because of a my wish list. #querytip #amquerying

Hi! This is a #querytip to check your junk mail once in a while. I've sent a couple of full requests out, and it's been a few days with no response, which is fine! I just want to make sure people are not missing something. 😜 #amquerying

I love, love it when authors reference my profile when they query me. It means so much to me that you all took the time to get to know me. Thank you! #amquerying #querytip

Some basic info on what I'm looking for on my query form.
Pitch: Once sentence, high concept, pitch.
Query: 2-3 paragraphs about your character/their goals, their world, stakes, and metadata/bio.
Synopsis: 1-2 page look at your whole book (spoilers included) #querytip
Literary Agent
I just want to remind writers that your agent SHOULD NOT be charging you for services. That's a big red flag.
I happily help my authors with anything they need and I only get paid AFTER they get paid for their book.

I love being an agent, but the worst part about the job is having to pass on great manuscripts. We can't take on all the ones we like, we have to take on the ones that truly sink their teeth into us. The ones we have a vision for. The ones that click. 1/2I know there are people behind those manuscripts who worked their butts off and I want you to know that you are great. Keep trying. #amquerying #querytip #amwriting #amagenting 2/2

Hey guys! I leave my DM's open because I do enjoy talking to you, but I really appreciate it if you don't DM to ask if you can query me. You can query any agent you like. Just make sure they are a good match by checking out their profiles. Thanks!! #amquerying #querytip

A query should be written in present tense. #querytip

I love when an author queries me and knows their genre. Thank you to those authors. I appreciate that you don't try to hide behind another genre to get my attention. 😘😏 #amquerying #querytip

Reminders for #amquerying
The synopsis doesn't matter so much as long as you have the main plot points and you spoil the ending.
The query, as long as you try, won't be rejected if it's not perfect. We just want to know the hook and what the book is about.

Not sure about other agents, but I LOVE when a query starts with a catchy first line that basically sums up the whole plot. Think of your "what if" question or the pitch you used during #pitmad. The line the NYT bestsellers list would use for your book. #querytip #amquerying

Something I really enjoy seeing in a query is when someone tells me why they thought I would like their MS. Referencing my MSWL or my profile means you took the time to research your agents. These queries are my favorite, and I thank you for it. #querytip #amquerying

#querytip I know agents give out a lot of tips around querying, but honestly, we just want to know you tried. It's ok if your query isn't perfect. Give it your best and it'll show.
Best of luck #amquerying
Literary Agent
#querytip, if the agency policy is that you can only query one agent per MS, please don't query multiple agents. We can see this, and it doesn't look good.
Pitch events are the exception. Or if you have made significant changes to the MS. Thank you!! 😊
