From an agent's perspective, a high word count can be a red flag that the project is early and in need of revision.

For that reason, if your word count is high, I strongly recommend revising before submitting.

The answer is write book one and outline the series & then put it aside. When querying, query book 1 and mention series potential, but do not write book 2, write something else until you know book 1 sold. I promise this will spare you so much extra work/anxiety. 2/2 #querytip

Please don't email an agency asking how to query an agency. You can google this, and most agents have so many people in their submissions who did the research on their own, too many people to go through in a timely way, that it doesn't look good, my pals. #querytip #subtip

Important #QueryTip: If you say there are no books out there like yours, it leads me to two bad conclusions which likely mean a rejection: 1. It may be impossible to market. 2. You may not read enough.

Seriously, if you are so upset by a form rejection (despite it actually being a template tailored to the exact reasoning for rejection! That's STLL a bit of real feedback) that you have to email an agent's boss to complain...

We do not publish young adult novels. It is on our website, it is all over my personal website, and yet I still keep getting young adult submissions. This leads me to believe people are blind submitting. Don't ever blind submit. Research who you are querying. #querytip
