I have seen this so many times, I need to offer an impt #pubtip. If querying an agent who uses query manager.com, don't ignore their open categories.
People keep querying me for fiction, selecting unrelated nonfiction topics. Do NOT do this. Here's why THREAD

A royalty statement reports units paid for by retailer* to publisher (not from consumer to author)

Look there's no one way to do this, but just ... show up, work hard, let go of the outcomes.Which is why I always say write for yourself. Then you already have the most satisfying outcome.

IMO-
Coincidence in a plot kills suspension of disbelief.
And weakens your character/tension by relieving conflict.
Make sure your query doesn't make it seem like a coincidence is there if it's not. And if it is, change your plot.

#pubtip Always look for ways to get your name out there to the readers. Make sure it is positive. Remember, readers buy the authors they remember

Publishing tip: At a certain point, you have to realize you've done your best & that's all you can do. Panicking over whether that agent will request or that editor will buy will leave you drained & restless. If you did your best, let go & start working on the next thing. This is probably the best #pubtip I’ve seen.

While we compete, we are still colleagues, and a lot of the times, friends. Please don't badmouth another agent in your Qs. #pubtip
