#Authors, if you're wondering the best time for supporters to buy your book, the answer is 2 weeks or earlier before pub date to give bookstores enough time to put in their orders. #pubtip

I'd say one in every 100 queries mentions a client that I have not worked with in about 13 years, when I left one agency for another. This isn't an auto-rejection level offense. But it tells me where you got your info, and that info is bad. #pubtip

The best thing for your mental health in publishing is to not compare yourself to others. Everyone has a different situation, and in the end, you’re just going to make yourself miserable dwelling on those who have bigger book deals or more fans. Focus on your own path. #pubtip

#pubtip Trying to blend a lot of different genres in your book does not get you more readers. In most cases, you turned off those who liked one of the genres and are not fans of those others. Keep it simple. Cross genre is fine, but the kitchen sink approach hurts.

Keah Brown @Keah_Maria

It feels like a brag when people ask me how I found my agent (@abuckslater) and I say he found me. But it’s true he did. And it’s also true that I didn’t have to query him so like I can’t give you advice on how to query an agent because I don’t know how lmao. Sorry!

Agents find clients all kinds of ways! If you're a journalist like Keah, make sure your contact info is easy to find within your online presence...you never know if an agent is reading your material and thinking: there's a book here. #pubtip

Does the villain turn out to be the hero's secret twin brother? Then say that rather than alluding to vague family secrets.

Pub credits et al tell us what you're up to, or have been up to. What worlds are you active in? Has anyone heard of them? Are they related to the book you're querying? Will they help with promotion? #pubtip 2/3

If you don't have any yet, don't worry--if you're writing fiction. If you're writing many types of non-fiction, we definitely ARE looking for pub credits related to your book. #pubtip 3/3
