If the contract is a World Rights deal, the subrights team at the publishing house shops and closes translation deals.

During contract negotiation the agent either retains translation for the author (North American English deal or World English deal) or sells translation rights to the publisher (World rights deal). #pubtip #translation

#pubtip for real, a man called the offices, seemingly unaware of what agents do/are, and he was rude to our assistant, rude to me, called me "baby" repeatedly despite my asking him not and then I think was trying to threaten me? And literally all he had to do was google it.

#pubtip If you are reaching out to agents, you should *already* know what they do and their guidelines. There are myriad online forums, guides, articles, websites about what a literary agent does and how they want to be contacted. Please read those BEFORE you reach out.
