@KathrynFaye007 If you're the writer only, then as part of the proposal, you'll need the full script. If you're the writer and illustrator, you need fully rendered sample pages in the proposal, not the full GN. Check out this link for the pitch: victoriaying.com/blog/2020/9/11…Literary Agent

@GalltZackerLit #AskGZLA If we've had editor interest in pitch events from Big 5 (or 4) do we mention it somewhere? Does it make a difference? Thx!Yes mention it! In the end our goal is to sell books, so if editors already like your story, great! Put those things in your query. It might not affect how the agent decides, because the writing is the most important, but your eventual agent will want this info for sub! #askGZLA

#askGZLA Hi all!! She wouldn’t really pose. Attitude problems. Anyway, do you believe that the publishing industry is really changing and becoming more inclusive when it comes to diverse books? pic.twitter.com/P17ctgkLgbIt's a lot better these days and ever evolving, a work-in-progress really. Not something that's "done," but so long as we continue to push, we can continue making striders. #AskGZLA

Hi! What do you need to see in an R&R that makes you want to offer? Especially if the age category is changing from YA to Adult 😊 Thank you! #askGZLAI'd want to see that the writer is capable of addressing my edits in the BEST way for the characters/story. It's their story after all, but all writers need to be able to address critique. I can't help on YA to adult bc I would never ask for that bc I don't rep adult! #askGZLA

Are you looking for #ownvoices YA SF? And how do you feel about MG books with protagonists who have disabilities? #AskGZLAWe're always open to #ownvoices and disabled protagonists! I don't do a ton of sci fi, but am open to it (when I reopen to kid lit). #AskGZLA

Would you want to know in the query letter, if we have worked with an editor on our MS? Does this help a query stand out? Thank you #AskGZLA pic.twitter.com/59dkhPUS5OIf it's an editor at a publishing house (like you won a contest or they were open to direct submissions) then yes! We'd prob want to submit to them & it's good to hear a pub is interested. If it's a freelance editor, context might be nice but it's all about the writing #askGZLA

If an agent really likes your full, but passes bc they don’t think they’re the right fit for the book, or the market is too saturated, are they likely to refer you to another agent? Or offer rep and put the sub on a back burner? #askgzla pic.twitter.com/eeuvDBDzGdSpeaking for myself, it's rare I refer to another agent unless I KNOW it's up their alley. It's hard to give another agent more work, esp. when I passed. I'm not sure if someone would offer rep for future sales potential - more likely they'd ask to see the next project #askGZLA

Paying my cute tax forward! ♥️ Where do you see the MG market heading? Any specific trends in paranormal/fantasy? I'm curious if the ghost story train has left the station. Thank you! #askGZLA pic.twitter.com/oezRX79mbDI think the ghost story train is still chugging along! Sure the market can get saturated, but that should never stop you from telling a story you're passionate about. Realize that fall also always feels saturated with ghosts - that's marketing's job! #askGZLA

@GalltZackerLit #askGZLA #askagentHow do you feel about a middle grade novel that switched from the main character being a girl in third person, but when she turns into a dragon it's first person?

Sounds potentially confusing, but I wouldn't know for sure without reading! You should definitely have a good reason, some emotional character development that makes this tense change necessary and powerful. If it feels clunky or confusing, then maybe it's not necessary? #askGZLA

Mowgli cuteness! As far as the POV switch, I say if you do it well, than it works! Hard to say without seeing it, but it doesn't hurt to play with perspective. #askGZLA

@GalltZackerLit Ruthie Bader Airedale and I want to know: Is the nonfiction picture book market saturated? What's floating to the top in that category right now? #AskGZLA pic.twitter.com/DF1swmh0rTMaybe slightly old news but lots of editors are looking for NF that focuses on moments, movements, or objects/items/inventions. PB bios work when that person's experience is underrepresented - we need more diverse NF PBs, we're good on the founding fathers! #askGZLA

On submissions, if they ask for query, synopsis and 10 pages is that just the query or include the 1-page synopsis? #askGZLAI don't have a cat, but here's my husky pic.twitter.com/sLN0ccHCqi
Adorable! The synopsis is separate, so be sure to include that in addition to to your query and pages. #askGZLA

What is your average # of queries/month and how many full requests and offers of rep does that translate to?(Thanks @MaliaMaunakea for helping me think of an intelligent question. 😄)
#askGZLA
I've been getting 400-500 queries a month this year (note that agents require different length of samples - our 2000 word sample is shorter than many others). These are guesses but usually about 30-40 partial requests, becomes ~10 full requests, becomes maybe 1 client 😳 #askGZLA

@christiemegill @GalltZackerLit SO CUTE! That's a toughie, since it's so subjective. I know I'm looking fresh concepts and voice, something I haven't seen done to death. Something unique. #askGZLAWhen querying, be sure to indicate what makes your story unique. #askGZLA

For queries, it looks like some agents just want a teaser of the plot, and others want to know the ending including spoilers. If it’s not specified on their submission page/website, what’s the default? #askGZLA pic.twitter.com/cxItiaCrz6First, this kitten is a mood. Second no spoilers is the default! The end/reveal is something to pull the agent along and they definitely want to be surprised and read the manuscript as a future reader would. They'll ask for a full synopsis prob if they want the end #askGZLA
