@UweStenderPhD If a novel idea can work both as an upper YA book (17 year old teens) OR an adult fiction (just change the ages and tweak the plot a bit) would you tell the author you're representing which you think would sell better if they asked for advice?Yes, I would.

@UweStenderPhD But sometimes you can start out as friends and then the relationship grows. Do you ever request b/c a manuscript intrigues you even though you may not love it?#askagentI would not know if I love a manuscript unless I read it. But I wouldn't read it, unless I am attracted to it in a query.

@UweStenderPhD @JasonHuebinger How many swears are allowed in a title? For me: none. I think they are unnecessary attention seekers.

@UweStenderPhD How is COVID19 affecting the number of MS agents will take on this year?#askagent
I can't answer for others. Assuming I stay healthy, I keep doing what I do.

@UweStenderPhD Should I refrain from putting pieces of my manuscript online (on a public WP blog)? I'm not ready to send queries and I like getting feedback on some portions doing that online is so easy but I worry that it's a bad move. It's an unnecessary move. No reason for it.

@UweStenderPhD @JonathanMaberry #askagent What is it in the query that makes you request pages? If you've requested pages in previous subs. do you want to be reminded of that? #staywellI don't know. It's like dating. You are either interested or you are not.

@UweStenderPhD I don't hear much about submitting series proposals (rather than just a synopsis). Is that a thing? A thing that might be asked for along with a full? Danke Schoen. #askagentJust pitch Book 1, and mention it has series potential. IF there is interest, the agent will ask to see whatever else.

@UweStenderPhD What do you look for in the first page of a manuscript? This won't be helpful. But something that hooks me, and DEMANDS that I read on...voice, an interesting character, or a great first sentence. @JonathanMaberry is a master of the first catchy sentence.

@Megan_Manzano does it hurt if an author has self-published? I'll be querying something new, but I've heard mixed things about this one.Self-publishing matters more when writers try to query that book. It's fine, IMO, if you've self pubbed and query a new book.

@Megan_Manzano Hi Megan, I have a question: if I’m asked to give an author bio, should that be written in 3rd person? What type of info should it contain and roughly how long should it be? Thank you so much😀Third person; should be 2-3 sentences about what you do, any fun facts or hobbies, and any writing credentials if you have them.

@Megan_Manzano Let's say someone used your services as an editor, would that person be able to query you with that idea?I've seen several agents doing this and I always wanted to know.
If they booked any type of manuscript edit, they can't query me. It's a conflict of interest.

@Megan_Manzano If you have Fulls out for a MS, should you wait to hear back on those before beginning to query a new MS (with different agents)?Nope! You can query a new MS with different agents.

@Megan_Manzano While it will always be subjective, I keep hearing Middle Grade fantasy top word counts ranging from 40,000 all the way to 70,000. Which is annoying when trying to judge completion. What would you say is your prefered, or easiest to promote top word count for MG?50k-60k is a good sweet spot in my opinion.

@Megan_Manzano My MS deals with a demonic possession, but it is not much of a focus (other elements have more priotiy) and handled in a magical realism way. Should I sub?To me, or in general? In general, as long as an agent's wishlist matches your work, then that's fine.
For me, as long as the demonic possession isn't the focus, then that's fine too.

@Megan_Manzano Hey! I know that a strong query letter and samples pages are pivotal, but how much emphasis do agents put on a synopsis if requested? If it isn’t as polished or concise could that deter an agent from requesting even if the rest of the submission was strong?Agents don't expect a submission to be perfect; for a synopsis, they really want to get a sense of the plot and where your characters end up especially if they only have sample pages or a partial.
Focus on the key requirements of a synopsis and you should be ok.

@Megan_Manzano What would you say to authors who are discouraged about the talk of YA being oversaturated and impossible to break into? (Asking for a friend ... and about a million others 😅)Keep going. There is always room for new voices and new stories.
Plus, the market always circles back around, even to something that might not be popular now.
