@BookEndsJessica Would love to know your definition of a query. It seems to be a term used interchangeably!I'd be curious to know how. A query is a one-page letter pitching your book for submission, similar to a cover letter for a resume. It should include a blurb for your book, title, word count, genre and an author bio, as well as any contact information. #askagent #amquerying

@BookEndsJessica Jessica, are you firm on these numbers when reviewing queries? I've got a thriller around 72k about cults (I saw this on your MSWL) that I'd love to query you on. Thanks!I'm not firm and if the idea grabs me I'll still request, but publishers might be firm. #askagent

@BookEndsJessica Would a series of 3 romance novels be good around 65k each? I noticed you said single-title should be 80+.No. That's still too short unless you are targeting one of the categories at Harlequin. #askagent

#askjna How important is the number of social media followers someone has when you're considering working with them?A social media platform always helps, but it isn't predictive for me in most cases. #askJNA

@AllisonSHunter @elisa_stryker I try to respond to everyone, but it isn't always possible (nor are my responses always timely). Maybe give me 4 months? #askJNAOh -- but feel free to follow up if you haven't heard back from me... #askJNA

@elisa_stryker This is different agent to agent, but I personally don't reply to all. I would move on after three months. #askJNAI try to respond to everyone, but it isn't always possible (nor are my responses always timely). Maybe give me 4 months? #askJNA

And make sure there's a moody human element I can't ignore, like how in the end, she doesn't change her choices to avoid pain, and is willing to experience the exquisite feelings of her future even knowing how polar they will be.As always, just my opinions and reactions 6/
To this story and my thoughts about ways to play with the genres of SFF and what I would find really unique and exciting in a submission. I hope this helps, or inspires someone to stretch the boundaries of their creativity! #writetip #askagent #amwriting #amediting

@UweStenderPhD How saturated is the YA Contemporary Mystery market? WIP...If it is brilliant, not saturated. If it is average...it will drown.

@UweStenderPhD Any advice for a Christian picture book when querying? Not really. But definitely try "religious" publishers.

@UweStenderPhD Do you think it's best to mention title/genre/word count at the beginning or end of a query? I've seen it both ways, but I'm not sure which is ideal. It does not matter, really, but I like to see such info earlier rather than later. #ButThatsJustMe

@UweStenderPhD Hi, Uwe! 👋🏻 When an agent reads a full MS, does he/she expect it to be “perfect” before offering rep? Or is it more about the potential? I’m wondering what kinds of things are “fixable” or what kind of flaw is ever over-looked because an agent still loves the story. #askagentThat depends. I have offered on voice and potential a few times, and it served me well. But generally, you need a manuscript to be as perfect as possible.

@UweStenderPhD I want to get a job as an agent once I finish college this December but I don’t live close enough to any literary agencies and finding remote internships are basically impossible. Do you have any advice? #askagentWell, there ARE remote internships available. But, yes, it is a very very tough business to break into. My best advice will sound hollow, but it IS genuine: don't give up. If it is really your dream, there will be a way. That aside, it is tough, even brutal, to make it work.

@UweStenderPhD How to agents/editors feel about prologues? I’ve heard mixed reviews about them, and I’m unsure if I should just turn my prologue into a chapter to make submission easier. If the prologue can be integrated into the story, I would. If not. I would keep it as brief as possible.

@UweStenderPhD Hi! What is the average length of time an agent takes to review a requested full MS? #askagent 😁Fantastic question. I don't know the answer. Anywhere from 1 day to 6 months...

@UweStenderPhD What is (in your experience) the top reason a mss is rejected? I know it's subjective, so I wonder what recurring flaws you encounter that don't work for you.Lose my interest by page 2. Causes: nothing happens (no stakes), boring protagonist, poor writing, pretentious writing, tons of errors.

@UweStenderPhD How much store does the agent put into looking at the bio? I have no official writing experience, and I worry that even if I do find the courage to query again, I won't pass the cover letter test. I'm just not interesting enough. In fiction, I don't care. In nonfiction, you NEED a platform, the bigger the better. If you write, you should query. Don't let (uh oh hint time) NOs get in the way. I'm drowning in a sea of NOes myself all the time. But at least *I* KNOW that NO's is genitive AND NOT PLURAL!!!!!
