@UweStenderPhD How did you celebrate your first client/book deal?My first book deal was amazing. I will never forget it. I didn't celebrate it at the time, I had to keep plucking. But every year since, I celebrate it by remembering what it was like, how happy and hopeful I felt, and that it laid the foundation of #TeamTriada. Gratefulness.

@UweStenderPhD are there better/worse times in the year for querying?I can only speak for myself, but between Thanksgiving and January 2, I am probably the most picky during a year.

@UweStenderPhD What makes you go YES on a full ms? Does it take you long to respond to a full?Depending on my schedule, which is getting tighter and tighter every day, it will take me longer than it used to. I will say YES to a manuscript when I can't stop reading it, even if it means I don't sleep at all.

@UweStenderPhD What type of picture books usually pique your interest? Are there any specific types that you shy away from? Thank you!I Can't really say. Right now, I have a lot of client PBs I am focusing on, so my selection process may be even tougher than usual.

@UweStenderPhD Firstly thanks for doing it at this hour. i was curious if the book sales for an author always lands with the same publisher? or every book can land with different publishers? (except i guess for series)#TeamTriada has many authors who have different publishers for different books and genres. It all depends on the circumstances.

@UweStenderPhD Should an author in the query trenches be concerned if an agency mainly has their clients' books published with small publishers? I've been told to look at that factor. #askagentI think the author should ask questions about it and make sure the answers are true. Hey, I started with absolutely nothing, and people gave me a shot, so thete. But it depends on the person.

@UweStenderPhD How do you find an agent who can sell your book in Europe after you are under contract with a publisher in US?An agency usually works with a network of foreign rights agents or scouts.

@UweStenderPhD If we sign with an agent and have a publisher, do we lose control over things such as book cover design or size of books? (Thank you for all the #askagent answers!)To a degree, yes, it is ultimately the publisher's decision, BUT consultation should be in the contract. And it would be insane for a publisher to publish a book with a cover their author despises.

@UweStenderPhD Thank you for your time- I just finished my first round of queries for a picture book - all to radio silence or polite no thanks. How many rounds of pitching should I continue with before moving on to a different project ?If you believe in your project, keep querying. If you don't, you should not have queried it to begin with. Keep going until you are out of good options. But querying does not prevent you from writing something else while you wait for the YES.

@UweStenderPhD Hi Uwe! :-D Do you take into account an author's age when contemplating whether to offer representation? Like, do you think older people (> 40 or 50) would be less able to navigate promoting their debut MG or YA novel well? Or is it *just* about the ms for you?I don't care about age, race, gender, sexual preference, disabilities, looks, weight, size, health, whatever. I never Google potential clients until after I love a project. Then, if I find they are under indictment for serious crimes, I will pass on them.

@UweStenderPhD Hi! What happens if an agent loves one of your picture books, but is not crazy about the rest? Does this happen? Thoughts?Anything can happen. I don't know , find another agent for the other books, or consider the possibility that the agent is correct. Then just write better projects.

@UweStenderPhD Prolouges: do you love them or hate them?I don't hate them, but usually they are avoidable by just telling the story right and well.

@UweStenderPhD As for comps- I know you said "...movies, etc.", but do you prefer books? I've seen a bunch of agents say movies and tv comps are a faux pas.Well for *them* it is a faux pas. For *me*, it is not, not at all. It is a subjective business. One of my most successful books I pitched as Werther meets Dead Poet's Society. Or don't use comps at all.

@UweStenderPhD #askagent If someone has a dual POV book, should the query reflect both point of views or only one? Does it matter or do agents just want a well written query? Also what's the ideal word count range for debut YA Fantasy? Thanks!!Both, your query needs to tell me the important parts of the book and POV is important. I don't like surprises and question myself why I asked for this. Word count, depends, but 75-100 K give and take .
