Q8: Contemporary Romance. This is New Adult, and the market in this space is so limited and so difficult, I'm not really acquiring college-set love stories atm. It needs to be high-concept, something that blows me out of the water to pique my interest. Pass. #tenqueries

Q7: Paranormal Romance. For PNR to really work I think there needs to be a high-concept hook, something that makes this story different from all the other vampire stories out there. That hook isn't here. Pass. #tenqueries

Q6: Urban Fantasy. The premise for this one reminds me of another manuscript, but the stories are very different. The problem is, that I liked the other story better and can't seem to get past it to enjoy this one. Pass. #tenqueries

Q5: YA Thriller. This dark YA has a compelling premise, but it's a multi-POV story, and I am just not always the best fit for anything above dual POV. Pass. #tenqueries

Q4: Contemporary Romance. The characters meet at a masquerade Purim ball, which is so delightfully specific. It's a little weird that I know someone with the MC's name, but I think I can get past it. Full Request. #tenqueries

Q3: YA Fantasy. This historical fantasy has pirates and #Latinx rep, which I love. But again this story doesn't feel like a YA story. It's an adult sounding love triangle. Pass. #tenqueries

Q2: MG Contemporary. The author asked me if I'd take a look before sending, and I said I would. This has great diabetes rep, and I wish I felt more confident about handling MG, but I don't. Pass. #tenqueries

Q1: YA Fantasy. I'm never sure about cryptids. But I think my biggest issue with this one is not the cryptids but the fact that this was written as YA. So many of the story elements feel like they could have been explored more authentically in an adult voice. Pass. #tenqueries

Q10: Science Fiction. This story is inspired by various indigenous mythologies but the author isn't #ownvoices and I just feel like now isn't the time for this. Pass. #tenqueries

Q9: YA Fantasy. This is the second magical boarding school pitch today. I know that we need to replace HP, but while I read those books, they weren't my favorite, so I'm not really looking for this kind of story. Pass. #tenqueries

Q8: Fantasy. This is a historical, portal fantasy that sounds intriguing, but I already have a portal fantasy on my list (albeit way more bonkers, but I think bonkers appeals to me more). Pass. #tenqueries

Q6: YA Fantasy. The voice in this magical fantasy is too young and breezy for YA, even as the things the conversations are about are clearly meant for a YA audience. Pass. #tenqueries
