@UweStenderPhD If you receive a query for a book and reject it what is protocol for sending another book that is completely unrelated to the first? (If they both seem to fall into your interests)Just query me again. I did not reject you, just the one particular project.

@UweStenderPhD This is not as much of a tips/tricks question, but I assume seeing your last post that I'd be best served waiting until after your vacation to shoot a query? Not necessarily. The single most difference to queries during that time is that I don't respond unless I am interested, which my out of office message CLEARLY conveys. I will still read upon my return, but not respond per my SPECIFIC message.

@UweStenderPhD Hi Uwe! Do you think the season your book is published in makes any difference to how well it does?Possibly. In the fall A LOT of books are up against best selling authors or lead titles. And that could be detrimental. At the same time, it could help, as more books are often sold. So, I guess in the end...it does not necessarily matter.

@UweStenderPhD @happywriter2017 An agent was very interested in my submission and asked for my current sales and number of followers on social media and then turned me down. I was wondering which factor is the most significant considering some agents sign on authors who have never been published? In fiction it should not matter, in non fiction it does.

@UweStenderPhD @happywriter2017 Would foreign language in a text message need to be italicized?Preferably...and ideally be actually correct.

@UweStenderPhD @happywriter2017 When querying dark fairy/folk tales, do I say they are MG or YA or Children's lit?Identify who the intended audience is. Is it MG or YA? YOU know. (hopefully).

@lapointe_jenna @UweStenderPhD @happywriter2017 Thanks for asking this one! I’ve been curious as I’ve had a few fulls out for what feels like forever! How exactly do you follow up without sounding rude?Dear <insert name>,
I hope this finds you well. I just wanted to check if you have had a chance to take a look at <insert title> yet. I am looking forward to your thoughts.
Best wishes,
<insert your name>

@UweStenderPhD @happywriter2017 With regards to word count, what is the longest MS you have requested from the slush pile?Hmmm, not sure. Maybe 110K...but that was a MAJOR exception.

Jenna Lapointe @lapointe_jenna
@UweStenderPhD @happywriter2017 Congratulations!! What is the typical timeframe to wait after sending an agent a full request before checking on its status? And would you say this timeframe tends to be longer for agents in the spring/summer (AKA writers' conference season)?I would check on their website for specifics. If there aren't any, then I would check back after about 10-12 weeks.

@UweStenderPhD @happywriter2017 I'm glad you are having a better day and congratulations on signing a new client 🙂. My question: Is it ok for an author to submit a different manuscript after a rejection if the agent did not specifically ask to see additional work? Thanks for taking time to answer questions.Of course. The rejection is only for the manuscript you originally sent, not for you as a writer.

Kari Hagen @KariHagenWrites
@UweStenderPhD @happywriter2017 If an agent is open to queries for an unfinished novel, should you submit or pass until it's ready? #askagentIf an agent is open to unfinished debut novels, they are either on crack or other opioids, or illegitimate, or bad, or YOU are Rihanna or some other almost as major celebrity.

Kira Hawkins @KiraHawkins7
@UweStenderPhD @happywriter2017 Do you meet all of the writers you sign face to face? How much travelling does a typical author do before and just after the release of a new book?Ha, no. IRL I have not met all of my clients, a lot, but not all. The traveling depends on how "big" the book is and what sort of promotion you and the publisher have in mind.

Mateo Askaripour @AskMateo
@UweStenderPhD Oof. That last one will be the hardest. I feel greedy asking more questions, but if you say it's okay, then I'll take your word for it. Maybe they'll help others.Would you consider a book with a 24-26 y/o MC narrating events that took place when they were 22/23 Adult or NA?
I mean what I say. Sometimes people don't understand that, but I always do.
Adult, for sure.

@UweStenderPhD Thanks, Uwe. Don't know how many questions people can ask, but I have another. When editing, specifically cutting (I'm sure you see a theme here, ha), what do you think should go first? Beginning the process in a few weeks and have a general idea, but every piece of advice helps. As many questions as you like. Start with unnecessary adjectives, and adverbs, then work your way to scenes that don't advance the plot, and characters that don't need to be in the book.

@UweStenderPhD Hey Uwe - I hope all is well and congrats on the new addition! For an adult novel (commercial), what's the max word count you'd accept before thinking it was just too long to warrant a request?Thank you! It always depends, but I would like to see it below 100K words.

@UweStenderPhD @kimberlyzook What if the agent does rep all age categories, but you feel another agent would be better suited for another ms? I'm just wondering what the acceptable situations are to have a 2nd agent, since agents do work on commission.Everything is acceptable if it is reasonable and agreed upon.

@UweStenderPhD Are any of your agents participating in #pitmad on June 7th? Any suggestions for making the most of a tweet in a pitch competition, such as using comp titles and such?I don't know. I assume most, if not all, but me, will. Practice the art of the elevator pitch.
