@NaomisLitPix What is the best way to obtain representation for work if you're seeking to work within multiple genres?Seek agents who work within all those genres and have that conversation when an agent offers rep. #askagent

#AskAgent More than one agent has recommended that I get an editor to look at my ms. I plan to. After I make my edits, would it be a okay if I re-queried any agents that have rejected me, mentioning that my ms has been prof. edited? This is something I don't mind at all, but some agents do mind. Ultimately, worst they can do is reject it again. But if feedback was given for the rejection related to not a fit for wishlist, etc, it might have been rejected for reasons which editing can't resolve. #askagent

@NaomisLitPix Went from middle grade to YA. I kept a few characters. I feel like it could recognizable but it's really a different story. Was fantasy but now is romance/ fantasy.Well my recommendation would be for you to let agents know it's a major revision of a previously seen title IF they requested to read pages. If just the query was rejected, you can prob just re-query.
If any other #askagent folks want to weigh in on this that would be cool!

Can a memoir be written by two people about their experience or would it be considered an OwnVoices? It's based on a true story but not every aspect is true #askagent#ownvoices typically means that you and your character share at least one aspect of a marginalized identity. #askagent

So... #askagent when an agent asks for my "writing bio" do I mention my fanfic with 7000 reads (and good reviews!) or does that sound amateurish? If you have better credentials do include them, but knowing readers enjoy your fanfic does help us see that your writing connects with your audience! #askagent

#amwriting #querytip #writetipShake things up. Break a mold. Try something new in your genre. Be daring. I reject MANY well-written manuscripts because the writing/tropes/angle is so stale/redundant for me, and I have piles of similarly structured stories in my query box. /1
Publishing has to look to the future, trying to stay ahead of trends, trying to catch things just before they explode. So if you can give us that something new, with enough familiarity to snag an established readership, we want to hear about it. /5 #askagent

Any advice on how many times you can query the same agent with different projects? (At different times, obviously.) #amquerying #amwriting #askagentI am encouraged by different projects by the same author. Shows your versatility, commitment, and experience! #askagent

@Billingsley29 I doubt 225 agents will do an #askagent session ๐I wouldnt turn that away. I may have questions abt length, like is a critical element missing? But adding needless words is the WORST... if an agent loves the story they will discuss expansion with you if need be.
I don't auto rej on word count unless it's ridiculous. #askagent

Question for Agents - When your submission guidelines state "paste x pages of your ms" when querying, how am I to count those pages? Single/double spaced? Font type/size? Or does it even matter if no specs are there? #askagent #amquerying #writerslife10 pgs 2spaced Times 12 (or other reasonable font at a reasonable size). Give us a good sample of your book but don't make us strain our eyes plz! ๐ค #askagent

#askagent Agents, what is your tipping point, when word count is just too low for a YA and you won't consider it? Is 50k-55k a hard pass for you? Does it matter if its a duology with both works being about that length?I like to see YA above 60k but again, word count efficiency matters: don't add needless words to reach a target number. I might read it at 55k and say YOU KNOW WHAT SCENE THIS BOOK NEEDS? So not a hard and fast rule. #askagent

#askagent Agents, what is your tipping point, when word count is just too low for a YA and you won't consider it? Is 50k-55k a hard pass for you? Does it matter if its a duology with both works being about that length? Not a hard pass, but I'd have questions: should this be expanded? Is something missing? Could it be better? Is the author capable of expanding without just bogging down with words?
Sequels are often expected to be similar lengths, due to printing costs. #askagent

#askagent, What would you call an Urban Fantasy type book that is set in the country/small town setting? #amwriting #genre #WritersContemporary fantasy (but do find a way to sneak the rural aspect in the query - may be an attractive or unattractive elements for many agents) #askagent

#askagent If I am co-writing with my daughter (whoโs 12) do I put that in the query or save it for the call?#askagent co-author should always be mentioned in the query.
Even if she's twelve. I have actually worked with 2 parent/child teams and it's a lovely experience!

#askagent #querytips How do you feel about the inclusion of supplementary materials in a requested fantasy MS? Appendixes, family trees, glossaries, maps, etc.If I've requested the full, I am expecting a word document of the story. These things can be a part of this document but I'm not likely to open multiple docs. But can story be told without those elements? Good to make sure story is strong enough to stand w/o them too. #askagent

I queried an agent in March & didn't hear back. A few weeks ago she liked my #pitdark tweet for the same project. Her website says to query significantly revised projects after 6 months. Should I wait until 6 months has passed, or can I query earlier because of PitDark? #askagentIf you queried but never heard back do send along the requested materials - if it was on a full manuscript request I would advise you email for clarification of her instructions. #askagent

@NaomisLitPix Iโm getting ready to query again. Is this a good time, or are agents ready for spring activities, setting aside reading time? 2. Iโve been revising my Romantic Suspense MS with an amazing mentor. Is it okay to resend to previous agents?Generally, if an agent is "open to queries" it's a good time.
You can re-query most agents unless their website says not to, but be up front and honest that it is a revision and you're hoping they will be willing to take a second look. #askagent

@NaomisLitPix Or generally how far the label extends and what specific things to do to avoid being called Tolkien-esque.Primarily, medieval-Europe inspired, but also the established systems of elves/dwarves/monsters/magic in this regard. #askagent
