Q4: YA Contemporary. Last one from May. This has some great #ownvoices rep, and I want to love. But I struggle with younger YA, and the opening scene makes gives me more MG vibes than YA which makes me think I'm not the right fit. Pass. #tenqueries

Q3: YA Fantasy. Going through the last of my May queries. Reading through the opening pages, I'm drawn to the aerialist MC and her Parisian dreams, I want to keep reading. Full Request. #tenqueries

Q2: Fantasy. Also have been sitting on this one. Same issues really. Love the comps/pitch, but a close read of the opening pages has me concerned about the world-building, and the author's ability to effectively describe action sequences. Pass. #tenqueries

Q1: Fantasy. I've been debating this one for a while. I like the pitch, I like the voice, but where this story starts, & where it's going to go...I'm just not sure I'm invested in the journey. It's hard to say no, but sometimes that's better than my indecision. Pass. #tenqueries

Q10: Fantasy. There is nothing to hook or distinguish this one from any other fantasy out there. I want to see those high concepts, not just magic in a strange land. Pass. #tenqueries

Q9: Romance. This is a New Adult story and the premise is great but the college setting makes this a really hard sell in the market. There are only like 3 traditional imprints that might consider this, and I just wish it had broader market appeal. Pass. #tenqueries

Q8: YA Fantasy. A diverse cast leads this, but I prefer to have a little romance in my YA fantasy but the leads here are all siblings so *that* can't happen. Pass. #tenqueries

Q7: Science Fiction. This is a dystopian police procedural at it's core, and right now that's not particularly appealing. Pass. #tenqueries

Q6: Romcom. Possibly this book is about Furries? I don't know. I don't think I can get past the fact that at the very least it's furry adjacent. Pass. #tenqueries

Q5: Romance. This query comps to Nicholas Sparks and the movie Beaches. The poor author doesn't know this but I HATE Nicholas Sparks. Like I have never read his books and watched only one movie (not The Notebook) before swearing off him for life hate him. Pass. #tenqueries

Q4: Fantasy. From this query I'm not even sure who I'm supposed to be rooting for in this story? There might be two stories? The opening pages don't really make that any clearer. Pass. #tenqueries

Q3: LGBTQ fiction. I am looking for stories with trans MCs, but I represent commercial fiction and this is literary. Pass. #tenqueries

Q2: Romcom. I have a hard time with books w fat rep when they're all abt pointing out MC's size. Like I don't want the story to be abt that, I want it to be abt the joy & the weight incidental? All these opening pages do is make me feel bad abt my own weight. Pass. #tenqueries

Q1: Fantasy. This Lady Macbeth inspired tale has the atmospheric setting I love about the play, and the heroine is charismatic and compelling and I want to see where this goes. Full Request. #tenqueries

Q9: YA Fantasy. This fairy-tale retelling plays with the absurd in a way that doesn't quite work for me. Pass. #tenqueries

Q8: Science Fiction. There's something about the concept for this that isn't working for me. Sometimes it's really hard to put into words why some ideas click, and some don't. Pass #tenqueries

Q7: YA horror. The concept is interesting but something about the way this is written, I think it's the use of present tense is super distracting and I can't focus on the actual words. Pass. #tenqueries

Q6: YA romance. This story is set in 1995/1996 and I just don't enjoy near-past contemporary stories. Pass. #tenqueries

Q5: YA historical mystery. I'm very selective on the historical YA I offer on, but reading the opening pages, this doesn't sound like or feel like a YA story. I would be interested to see this framed as an adult historical mystery, I'd take another look then. Pass. #tenqueries
