Q5: Get the feeling that the author made the protag gay just for the hell of it. A character's sexuality isn't a plot device. #tenqueries

Q4: Biography of a relative who fought in the Civil War. These are usually great stories, but sadly have little national appeal. #tenqueries

Q3: Query letter written in the POV of the protag. Somewhere, someone told authors that this was a good idea and was very wrong. #tenqueries

Q2: Query opens with three pages of straight dialogue. By the end I had completely lost track of who was saying what. Pass. #tenqueries

Q1: Political thriller. If Twitter had a "mute all political opinions" button, I couldn't press it enough. Unfortunate timing. #tenqueries

Q10: Classic mistake-sees what's selling now, trying to write to the trend. If something is trending, the trend is already over. #tenqueries

Q9: Nonfiction, memoir about life, travels, and experiences. Everyone has life, travel, and experience stories. Nothing unique. #tenqueries
