Q10: YA. Intriguing, but introduces a LOT of concepts with no clear explanation for how they all fit together. I'm bummed but--Pass.

Q9: Thriller. Looking a little derivative, and I'm not in love with the writing. Pass.

Q8: PB. Not grabbing me. Pass.

Q7: I don't represent screenplays. Pass.

Q6: YA Fantasy. The scope of the story doesn't seem to match up with the word count, but it retells a cool myth, so I'll take a closer look.

Q5: Literary fiction. The author can write, but it's just not for me--a little too typical of midcentury "classic literary fiction." Pass.

Q4: PB. Rhyming couplets (ugh) and been-done premise. Pass.

Q3: Horror. WAYYYYYYY too long. Pass.

Q2: Contemp YA. Interesting voice, but the premise doesn't grab me. Pass.

Q1: PB. Cute premise and mostly good/thoughtful execution, but the end needs significant tweaking. I'll think about it.

Q10: Thriller. Very intriguing concept, and it makes me curious how it could be done in book form. Not a pass for now...

Q9: Sigh. No query letter at all, just the ten pages. PASS. (Please follow submission instructions, guys!)

Q8: PB. Didn't follow submission instructions and I'm not in love with the concepts. Pass.

Q7: Horror. Pretty tropey--I don't see how this one can break out from other similar stories. Pass.

Q6: Horror. This dialogue...isn't working. Pass.

Q5: YA/crossover, but the word count is too short and the conflict is very vague. Pass.

Q4: Adult fantasy. High word count and swordery, which isn't my bag. Pass.

Q3: YA SF. It takes a lot to get me into sci-fi to begin with, and while this has an intriguing setting, the plot isn't pulling me in. Pass.

Q2: Magical realism YA. A saga that doesn't feel explicitly YA at all--it's going for epic but feels overstuffed/unfocused. Pass.

Q1: MG contemporary that's too similar to a current project. Pass.
